I will be receiving the pictured Sig P220 in a trade. I am not a fan of the Hogue grips, so I was thinking about switching them out for the newer E2 grips:

I read the description in regards to fitting and the main spring style, but is there a way to tell if it will fit on mine without additional parts simply by looking at the picture?
Also, this may serve double duty as a carry gun. If so, will the E2 grips be too aggressive? Are there any other similar alternatives?
Thanks guys

The E2 grips have a less agressive texture than the Gen4 Glocks.

I didnt find the E2 to be much of an advantage on my 220. The standard grips were thin enough. I didnt like the way the grips flexed, moved. This was most noticeable when decocking. I would probably use the e2 grips on a 228/229/226 platform.

My biggest complaint with the E2 is the heavier trigger pull. The E2 main spring seat/spring is shorter and has less space to compress.

I carried a non E2 220 for 15 years and an E2 220 for a few months. I view the E2 as a solution in search of a problem for the 220.

The grip is also a pain in the ass to remove, install on the 220. Much easier on the double stacks

You will probably require the new mainspring assembly. I suspect that it already has the proper trigger bar and spring since the two-tones were released after 1992.

Ok thanks for the info, both of you.
Right now I am between getting the E2 grip or just getting some nice wooden grips.
As far as the E2 and its associated trigger pull, is it really noticeably heavier?
For wood, anyone know of someone doing custom engraving?
Either way, I've got to swap out those Hogues!

Edit: note this picture, the newer instruction manuals make new think that this is somewhat newer made, meaning it may have the updated main spring for the E2 grips already. Thoughts?

Check sig forums . com, for more info. There are some very knowledgeable people there

This is a pic of the E2 mainspring, seat and strut on a P226. The 220 looks the same

Thanks for that pic. When the pistol comes in, I'm check it out.
Unfortunately though, none of my useable email addresses fit the criteria for registering on SigForum.

I really like Hogue G10 grips, especially the chain link ones. Greg Cote LLC is a great source of them.

I have a couple of P220's and one wears the G10 checkered. I really like those grips. IMHO, the single stack Sigs do better without the E2. It is the double stack guns that get the most benefit from the slight reduction in girth that comes with the E2.

I've got small hands, and I found the E2 grip on a P226 I bought a couple of years ago to provide too short a trigger reach, and I didn't like how it forced my grip lower on the backstrap, either. I very much prefer the factory SIG grips--I can reach both SA and DA triggers fine, and the texture provides good purchase. These are the grips:

So I got to check out a set of E2 grips on a 220 at a gun store recently, and they didn't seem to reduce the grip size anyway. I do like how thin they are, but the standard grips feel much more solid, so I'll likely just have to find a set of those.
Does anyone have an extra set laying around? Anyone want the Hogues that I have?
I may also wind up getting a set of Hogue cocobolo or wood grips too.

Contact SIG Customer Service and check if the standard plastic grips are available. You can also check-out Top Gun Supply.

I tried the Hogue rubber grips and hated them as well. The wood grips are made by Nill. The wood grips are nice but my concern with them is durability if and when the pistol falls on a hard surface. Just keep in mind when ordering grips for a 220 there were changes made to the grip, so providing the serial number is the most certain way to make sure the correct ones are ordered.
