I want to here it from the experts. What is the following.

1.Ammo for accuracy
2.Ammo for "knock down"
3.Ammo for plinking
4.Ammo for long term storage
5.Ammo for SHTF
6.Ammo best for the price
7.Best Ammo for the M4 period.

Assume 1/7 twist with chrome lined barrel and bore in a 16" barrel.
I realize this will stir the pot but that is what I am looking for. Many opinions and reasons. This has been and will long be a much debated subject. I have 2 complete books I have created with info from forums and still do not know the answers to the above questions. Your time will be appreciated.

im far from an "expert" but my own personal list would be...

1.75gr TAP
2.75gr TAP (5.56)
3.Partizan M193 and 75gr
4.?
5.75gr TAP (5.56)
6.Partizan M193
7.75gr TAP (5.56)

edit-btw,"knock down" should probably be in quotations.:D

I am sure it has been discussed many times but what happen to the M855 is the best thing since sliced bread theory. Before that is was LC M193. Is the US Military ammo that bad in the M4?

Nothing wrong with mil ammo at all. I like m855, I like m193 too have loads of them. They are just not my favorite. I prefer the Mk262 and the 5.56 Hornady. I'll take anything that is true 5.56 over anything that isn't. I don't shoot off a bench ever, my shooting is 99% practice, training and work.

This country is run by "experts", so that may not guarantee much...

I run M193, or more often, its equivalent in a handload: the 55 gr FMJBT with 26.5 grains AA 2520. (Start 10% lower and do not assume my experiences apply to you or your equipment.) Not being military sealed at the case neck or primer mine may not do as well underwater or out in a rainforest as "real GI" ammo. OTOH I have handloads that have performed well after 20+ years and a couple of long-distance moves. Good enough for my purposes and I suspect for 99% of us. Last time I did the math it cost me about 19.5 cents per round including GI brass, not counting the work involved on my part.

From everything I can learn it delivers worthwhile energy and fragmentation out to approx 120 yards from a 16" barrel, and more accuracy than I can use out to 300. Sufficient.

We're not talking benchrest or 100 yard Wimbledon matches here.
