View Full Version : Keymod rail covers
Since BCM covers are not available yet, which covers work best?

Midwest Industries, no doubt.

Have you tried others?

Yes. The MIs are thin and I like that they secure with a nut compared to the Noveske's (which look very similar to the BCM offering). The texture on the MIs is also much better than Noveske's (which, again, look very similar to the BCM offering). and the RailScale keymod panels are pretty much the most retarded thing I've ever seen on a rifle - period.
The MIs are also about equally priced with Noveske as well. They knocked it out of the park and I've yet to read anywhere of someone buying the MI panels and saying "Well, I tried xxx and it's much better..."
Fair enough, I'm running noveske's on my NSR and they work fine for me. I don't care for the look of the MI covers but I know that does not matter to many. How are they as far as heat goes, my NSR covers do get hot when gun is run hard.
I've tried Noveske and MI. MI are superior in my book.
Another vote for the MI covers. They feel really good on the BCM KMR which I find to be a little too narrow. The MI covers add just the right thickness and texture for a secure hold.

MI covers ordered. Thanks guys
for general ref.
I have the Noveske and the Knights, they are a PAIN to install on the BCM KMR rail. with the Knights, you have to remove some polymer to have them fit if you are planning on installing them side by side. When I saw that MI released theirs, I ordered them for my second KMR. By far the best for ease of install/uninstall alone. I want to order the MI for my first, but don't want the hassle of taking the the other two brands off, now that they are finally on... LOL

BBossman, that's odd. I measured and found the MI covers to only add 0.14" to the diameter of the handguard. But I do think it feels better because of the change in shape.
Without panels: 1.64"

With panels: 1.78"

Funny, I actually ordered the MI just because I preferred the look and ended up liking the functional benefits as an added benefit.
As far as heat goes, I use a BCM vertical grip and only have the panels where my hands touch the rail. I have a 5 slot on the 9:00 rail, 3 panel in front of the VG, and 4 panel on the 3:00 rail. Running it hard isn't bad because not much of your hand contacts the rail but I did test it a while back because markm brought it up and after 4 mag dumps it was no longer possible to hold the rifle without gloves on.
Loving the MI panel covers, work great and so does the handstop paired with the bcm vfg

The change in shape is what I feel. Sometimes the tactile aspect overcomes the actual measurements.

Eurodriver, how bad do the screws heat up, run hard?

I did not notice the screws at all even though I couldn't even hold on to the panels due to barrel heat.
Thanks. That's pretty much the only concern i have about them.

I thought it was like 50+ to get a full set of MI panels.

Was that "impossible to hold" before rail covers or with them?
MI's should do the trick.
