Our season in Michigan starts in little over a month and a half. Some other states start in September.
Let's see those trail cam pics!!

Well, archery season opens today in MI. I'll be in my tree-stand in 8 hours. Good luck to anyone else venturing into the woods tonight!
Nice! Looks like you have a couple nice ones to hunt.
Good luck!
Good luck buddy, looks like the odds are stacked in your favor.
On comical note--- the proper way to punk your buddys trail cam http://www.alloutdoor.com/2013/09/05/punk-buddys-trail-camera/ Good hunting everybody!

5 does and a 4pt have crossed my path(s) so far this season. Nothing worth shooting.
My uncle shot a nice 8pt on Wednesday. Nice body and a decent spread. This early I probably would have passes on it.
Right now, I see nothing. About a quarter mile from where I am my dad tells me his field looks like a petting zoo. :(
My main mission is to get my two kiddos thier first deer this season.
If Dad bags one along with them it will be icing on the cake.
My body count is well,......lost track a long time ago lol
It's thier turn
Youth Mossberg Maverick 20ga is the tool that they will be using.
28974There is a couple of really nice 10s around my place, every bit of 140-150 class, if anyone other than me gets one I hope it's them!:)

Had a good look at this 8 almost 2 weeks ago, unfortunately at my stand location and the time of day, I couldn't get a shot on him. Needed him to come in about 10 minutes earlier :/
Just seeing does at this point. Rut should be peaking in the next week. Giving the property a rest till then.
Always a game of cat and mouse isn't it! Looks like in your first few pics you have some much bigger bucks out there than him, maybe it was meant to be he came in a little too late.
Shot this weirdo this morning, never saw it on a single game camera

no he landed hard on his face and it just sunk in I guess. He went down hard, pretty sure he was dead before he even knew what hit him

Now that is definitely not something you see every day... Nice non-typical though. Would have been a great symmetrical rack!

I'm hoping to see this one this season yet. Don't want him breeding too many does :p
wow thats weird to see it curved that way
The RUT is really starting to heat up here, lotta deer movement last few days.
Wish I was still in VA, I got my first and only one a little over a year ago. Just never had the desire but now I kind of wouldn't mind.

If you have the chance now is a great time to be out there, it's rockin and rollin ... at least in my neck of the woods, seen several smaller bucks, not any of the three in particular I'm looking for but the bucks are cruisin hard.
I know OP asked for trail cam pics, wish I had some, I've just seen these deer in some close by fields but not on my property so far, but as the rut chase and breed phase kicks up along with local hunting pressure it's hard tellin what could get pushed past my stand location.
I'll be heading to the family farm in MO on the 16/17/18 and again on the 23/24/25. This will be my first time out and I am excited to learn someone new and hopefully have some success with beginner's luck. Already planning a deer rifle for next fall I am so interested and eager.

Good luck man! that's right around the corner.
7 doe this morning, two bucks on the trail behind them, not any shooters.

I didn't get to be out in the woods this weekend as I was watching the kids while my wife was at a ladies retreat with our church. I did however check the trail cams and it looks like a few of the big bucks are still around. Heading out tonight for the last evening of warmer weather. Polar vortex 1.0 seems poised to strike on Wednesday.

Opening day of our firearms season is on Saturday, lows in 20s.
Should be good, better than last few years where it has been unusually warm. Getting antsy !

Haven't decided if I should give the bow one more shot before the woods erupts with gun fire on Saturday. Saw 2 does last night. Came onto my food plot and munched for about 40 minutes. No sign that they were being chased so idk.

I've had good luck with bow in the past on the last few days before gun season. Part timers on near by properties getting out at the last minute to set stands scout etc. Run deer right to me.
Usually between 10th and 15th give or take a couple days is when the peak of the rut hits in my area.
I tend to get sick and miss work. :p

Yeah I just found out I still have 4 days of vacation left this year and we have a use it or lose it policy...
Got my gun blind set up last week, waiting on the polar vortex to start the rut right before Saturday's opener. It should be a crisp, cold morning to sip hot coffee and scan the woods for antlers.

Ummm, yea I think I'd use it, there's going to be a lot of deer movement coming on quick I suspect, with the cold front, the rut, just overall good timing this year.

Oh man... The snow is flying. Went to Meijer yesterday and stocked up on snacks and propane.
It is time!!!
Got cold quick gonna be good!
Can't wait to see how well my 6.8 SPC Suppressed Indiana Deer Legal "Pistol" does on Whitetail with 110gr VMax.
Hopefully they get the new regulations passed next year for anything .243 bullet diameter and above. I'll still use 6.8, just with a regular lower and a 16in barrel lol.

Yeah we got some new rules in the lower michigan "shot gun zone" where we can use rounds with a straight walled casing smaller than 1.5" tall but minimum caliber of .35 or something stupid like that.
basically a .450 bushmaster, .50 Beowulf, or similar. Gotta build a new upper for next year :/

I would love to see 243 and above legal use, why not?
Just doesn't make sense here in In
Twas the night before Christmas....
Oh wait... wrong thread...
Twas the night before Deer Season... ;)
exactly! Maybe some restrictions on calibers over the .243 mark. Keep the city yahoo's from hunting with their SKS or AK just cause its "the only high poower riffle I got"
Time to hit the sack, opening day is tomorrow and I intend to be out early. The problem - I had a severe cold last year on opening day, and I think another one is coming on now! Argh!!

Lucky. Earliest I'll be able to make it to the farm and in the stand will be Sunday evening as the snow rolls into McDonald County. Hitting the freeway after work tomorrow night and cannot wait.

Don't get me started on "city yahoo's" :neo:

Been sitting out for 2 and a half hours (5:45am)
I've seen nothing. Brother saw 6 already, dad shot "a nice buck."
-_-
Bow kill from earlier this year, he was shot at 15 yards. He gross scored 176 7/8 and netted 146 5/8.

Finally got him tho! Pretty awesome to see these animals grow throughout the year. The fact that we can keep them around for months without a fence is pretty nice too. Guess we're doing something right in land management...

Good luck!
We get a special antlerless firearm season that opens on Dec26, hoping to fill the freezer more then.
Our group had a fun productive season. The fourteen year old son of one of the hunters killed a big 150 inch deer during bow season. Myself and another hunter killed a couple of three year old does with our handguns. I also took a wide. 116 inch ten point with the slug shotgun and a 124 inch nine point with the black powder gun.
