View Full Version : How does this powder measure out of a Dillon Progressive reloading machine?
I about to buy a canister of Alliant AR-Comp powder. I have a Dillon 550 reloading machine. Anyone know if this powder will measure accurately out of a Dillon Powder measure?

I've personally never used it but I've seen it and it's a short cut extruded powder so I would imagine it would meter just fine.
4895 works well in my 550 for 223 and 30/06.

H4895 or IMR 4895? Is H4895 a short cut powder?

Isn't AR-Comp a short cut extruded powder? Anyone know from experience if this will meter well in a Dillon powder measure?
I've never tried it. I saw 8 lbs of it in the gun store a few weeks back, but I've got enough different powders to contend with already. Perfect metering isn't critical if you develop a load that's in an accuracy node.
I've weighed some charges off of my 550b with really short cut extruded H322, and I'm scratching my head... But those loads still work great with 2/10th swings from time to time.

Seems I am also reading info on the intenet where extruded powder gives better accuracy than ball powder even though it does not meter as well as the ball powder! Anyone experienced that also?

Yes. I don't run any ball powders. And accuracy is the goal of all my ammo.
People do indeed make very accurate ammo with Ball powders though.

Ditto on the IMR 4895
I've used a few pounds of AR Comp out of my 1050. It meters just fine out of the powder measure. However, I wasn't really impressed with the powder. With the loads I tried the accuracy was just ok and the velocity wasn't anything to write home about.
That was just my experience. Your mileage may vary.
