New Black Panthers in Dallas showing Police and criminals that they are armed and have rights.
About 30 men and women with the Huey P. Newton Gun Club rallied through the streets, focusing on deadly police shootings from the Ferguson, MO shooting death of teen Michael Brown to shootings by local police.
Some carried long guns, rifles, shotguns and AR-15s, while others carried signs others and wore messages.
“I think it's a good thing,” said Reginald Cofer with Mothers Against Teen Violence.
“They are trying to protect the community,” said Jacey Cofer with Mothers Against Teen Violence. “At the city hall meeting the other day, we got no answers. It's been a bunch of murders, the cops are not being accountable for it, and we want answers.”

If that had been ANYBODY ELSE...AND I MEAN ANYBODY ELSE BESIDES MINORITIES...they'd be radical right wing extremists who are potentially terrorists.
Now I'm all for ANYONE having the right to defend themselves, but the BPs are no different from the Klan. And the whole "Mothers Against Having Working Brain Cells" groups endorsing them is simply mind blowing.

To put it mildly. This is some "Jim Crow" quality double standards. We aren't even "separate but equal" anymore. If some skinhead group tried to pull that stunt the SWAT presence would make Ferguson look like a "citizen patrol group" action, it would lead the nightly news and the SPLC and Al Sharpton would be on CNN around the clock talking about the "RACE CRISIS" in this country.
And of course the local "community groups" would DEMAND a Federal response from Holder IMMEDIATELY for their protection against this domestic terrorist group.

IMHO open carry (especially long guns) is displaying ZERO discretion and tact, no matter who does it. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I kind of think everyone should open carry all the time.
Barring that, I'd personally prefer to concealed carry for tactics and social reasons. I also think the more people do it, the more it'll be accepted. But carrying long guns that aren't slung across your back is like holding, not holstering, a pistol everywhere you go. It would put me on edge for sure.

When you state you need to open carry to protect yourself against criminals and the police, it sounds a lot like protection from criminals and from the government. If it was not a group founded on the principles of racial hatred, I might be inclined to let it go. Ask yourself if everyone would be all warm and fuzzy for the KKK to do the same thing.
I was more disturbed by the college student that wants to make sure everyone is aware of the situation with MB. Forget the fact that we don't know if that situation was "criminal attacks police and gets shot" or "criminal wrongly shot in police encounter".

The first federal gun control laws were enacted to keep firearms out of the hands of the post civil war blacks. The KKK was astonished to find their targets for terror were armed and fighting back, so the democrats passed laws to disarm the blacks.
I'm all for open carry. Many folks on this site remember walking or bicycling down the street with their 22s in hand to go shoot at the local dump and getting nothing more than a friendly wave from the sheriff

The humor I found in the report was the lack of media backlash, the lack of Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense making a scene, the fact that what the open carry group was doing was praised & that the group purposely went to a diner were LEOs were having lunch. The group even went in full CTD kit. No backlash because whoever opened their mouth would have been labeled racists, again.

And just to get to the heart of the matter, the objection really isn't even a racist group like the BPs or KKKs walking around armed, so long as none of them are prohibited persons they have the right to be armed and the right to free expression regardless of how retarded their expressed ideas may be.
But what most of us are objecting to is the blatant, glaring and offensive double standard where groups like this are seemed as "positive defenders of the community" and anyone else is seen as a radical "militia guy" who belongs on a terrorist watch list and probably has child porn.
Maybe next we can declared crips n bloods to be "community heroes", after all they do protect "home turf" even if it is to control the drug trade.
And while we are on the subject, Open Carry Texas generally takes a lot of shit for their antics and are hardly deemed "ok" by most members of this forum. But at least OCT isn't a racist hate group.

I obviously missed something with regards to the OCT retards. Maybe I'm confusing my musing on other boards with this one; but I thought that we were pretty much in agreement that OCT were a bunch of idiots doing stupid things to hurt the lot gun movement.

Can you get me a reference on this? I really need to study up on the history of gun control. It actually came up in a meeting with a local Democrat legislator recently, discussing the new GA laws.
