Question, would you guys buy this gun?? Cost would be in the $2K range I think.

No.

I divested myself of my 901 due to the antiquated rail design, the fixed front sight and the lack of adapter blocks at the time.

This is a two thousand dollar 7.62X39 gun that fixes the FSB problem, potentially fixes the rail problem (those sections look removable) but offers nothing in the way of performance gains.

As much as it pains me to say this, id rather get a Sig 556XI in 7.62X39 or a plain jane AK if i want to fire .30 cal ammo instead of a DI, unproven, overly expensive colt.

For me, it is a collectors item. The gun has been proven to run BTW.

DI 7.62x39? Nope.

I might. But as you said, it would be more for the collector angle, which wouldn't make it a priority to me.

I am not a huge 7.62 fan, but would shoot the gun. Would it be my primary training weapon of choice? No.

For me, it represents a cool gun that has already been fielded. So from a collector standpoint, I want one.

Only if it comes in .300 BLK!

Not for 2k. I do think it's super cool though. If I had money to burn, sure. A person could purchase two arsenal 107s for about the same, and have proven reliability. Maybe later if they start to mass produce these the price may fall then...

I agree that its interesting but for that price I think I'll take a rifle dynamics ak.

I think it's neat. The KAC SR-47 was never released, and there seemed to be quite a bit of interest in it.

AR ergos while using AK mags and ammo; I think that's a win. Especially considering the lengths some companies will go to AR an AK. Now add to the fact we have an embargo on Russia...

Piston doesn't matter unless you're using corrosive ammo from the 40's through it.

I just wish Colt would use a lighter weight barrel on their 901-series guns. If that article is right, this is a 9.9 lb gun. Not sure if that is with a full mag or not, though.

The more I think about it, the more intrigued I am, *IF* it is a proven performer, as Grant says.

No bolt hold open? I guess that's a limitation of using AK mags.

Until I have a few Arsenals in the safe or the price drops, I'll probably pass.

I would definitely be interested, but I hold the same sentiments as above.

If it had a lightweight barrel and rail options.

I'd rather buy and modify an AK at that price.

If money was not a problem and I was a collector, yes. Would love to have one for a referance collecton but that is about it. Would have to track down one of the KAC SR-47 while I was at it.

If I had the coins to, I would buy one just so I could take it down to discover what they did to enhance performance of 7.62 Soviet from an AR. Would love to see the bolt face to see if they beefed it up as that has been a common complaint for users of 7.62x39 in an AR. IIRC they ship with US Palm magazines so that is at least one readily available polymer option, but I would still like to try the MOE AK mag from Magpul in it.

.300BLK almost makes the 7.62x39 AR moot, almost.

Yes. It would be super awesome for certain real world applications. I would has.

If the CK901 were available in the same exact layout (rail, sights, gas block, etc.) as the CM901 in 308 I'd strongly consider it. But frankly if Colt is going to insist on a monolithic platform they should give us options as to the handguard that we'll be stuck with. A narrower quad rail (ala DD-width), longer options (either full rail or DD/C4-style cutout), and maybe some super-slim keymod/MLOK options.

But honestly I haven't seen enough interest in the .308 CM901 to warrant bringing an AK-mag variant to the market before different 308 options.

I'd be more interested if the gun was about as expensive as a 6940. Colt guns work fine but if it's getting that close to high dollar then I'd rather wait for the SR47 to finally materialize.

Nope, I'm a "cold war" kid and somehow AKs in 5.56 and ARs in 7.62x39 / 5.45x39 are just wrong.

And if I really need a big, clumsy AR carbine I can also go with a .308.

Grant,

I would buy it as long as I could set it up to run suppressed well. I wish they could have found a way to design a bolt hold open device though. The advantages of an AR type set up are to numerous to list for a 7.62x39 rifle that uses AK mags, and as far as I'm aware, I won't be able to acquire a Sako M92 or AK-12 anytime soon.

I'm curious as to how the buffer and spring are set up, and what mods would be needed to run suppressed. A piston version of this rifle would be even more desirable IMHO, in the same manner as the HK416 is set up. I just fear we'll see bolts cracking at less than 3000 rounds on this gun and other durability issues. I guess what I really want then is a SCAR-H modified to take AK mags

Two words, Handl Defense, that company apparently has caliber conversions for 7.62x39 and 5.56/300 BLK for the Scar 17 coming out, though the release date is anyone's guess for the consumer market.

I'd probably buy a .300BLK upper and a reloading setup before I'd buy this gun. It's certainly interesting and a cool historical footnote, but I can't see myself spending that much for a heavy gun with oddball functionality. Of course I only own one 7.62x39 AK, a WASR 10 that I bought mainly for plinking with cheap steel cased ammo.

I want one, just not sure if I want it for $2k. I do have a plan to get a rifle in 7.62x39 that is not an AK and uses AK mags. But, it's not about collect-ability for me at all, it's just about having fun shooting...so that price tag would be hard to justify.

I'd also be interested, but not at that price or the heavy barrel.
