View Full Version : M4 stock questions
Way back in the dark days, I purchased a Colt 6400C (for $845.00 new!) When the AWB expired, I had the barrel threaded adn put a A2 Fh on it adn swapped the "permanantly fixed" retractible stok fro a real one. I used a Bushmaster tube and stock.
Well now I want a "better" stock and would like opinions on the ones I'm considering and why you would take one over the other. Are they for different "applications"? I plan on getting optics and a buis later.
-Vltor MOdstock (I like the cheekweld adaptors and storage capabilities)
-Magpul CTR
I am not LE or Military. Will never likely use it to save my life.....but just in case, I want a good peice of equipment. Lighter weight is preference.
Thanks to all who respond.

I have a Vltor stock and I am very happy with it. It provides a solid check weld and is very solid and versatile.

It sounds like you pretty much have an M4 pattern carbine. I would recommend one of the lighter stock such as the CTR, VLTOR (not the EMOD) or possibly even the LMT/Crane although that is getting a little on the heavier side.
Personally I think the EMOD and UBR are more suited for heavier mid lengths or 18" rifles to help balance them out...

I would imagine so, and agree. Though I really cannot tell the difference much or didn't pay attention weight-wise when the VLTOR.Carbine.Modstock was on earlier before being swapped out. I should have paid more than the usual attention. . .:o
isn't the Bushmaster buffer tube non-MILSPEC diameter?
if you wish to keep that tube, then the commercial diameter CTR is your only bet.

No, the Vltor Emod (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=24440&st=emod&s=) comes in a commercial version too.
I haven't weighed the CTR or UBR yet, but here's the two Vltor offerings. The Emod weighs 3 oz more than the original Vltor with rubber pad and zip tie.
