Looking for a new wallet.

Doesn't have to be dressy or flashy or super tactical, just something that can hold a few cards, cash, and a clear area for an ID. I'd prefer no velcro and magnets are a no-go obviously.

Any ideas?

I have one of these (http://bellroy.com). I'm quite happy with mine - holds a couple cards and cash. Bought one for my brother last year - holds a couple cards but only holds cash if its folded (he doesn't normally carry much or any cash) - he's a lawyer and is still using his, so I presume he's happy with his, too.

But it doesn't have a clear area for your ID to get stuck in. So it rather falls flat there. But the operative word is that it doesn't get stuck. So I don't mind not having no clear area.

Never posted in the the GD forum, but couldn't resist this topic as I'm very hard on wallets and typically wear through most of my travel/vacation pieces within 6-12 months. Check out Saddleback leather: http://www.saddlebackleather.com/frontpocketidwallet. Initially, I purchased 10 (!) of the front pocket ID wallets thinking I'd replace one every six months. To my surprise I'm still on the first after three years. One caveat- they're a little tight in the cash pocket and you may have difficulty cramming more than ten bills in there.

I have one of the Saddleback ID wallets, and after more than a year there's no real wear on it. Great wallet for the price.

I like the Tri-Fold...but I'm considering their bi-fold/gentleman's wallet. I'm of the belief that wallets should be leather so that they keep getting better with age until they one day need retired.

Nope- been there, done those. To be fair, the sailcloth was stout, but the nylon edging worked loose. Probably would have been covered under warranty, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of sending it back and wearing another out when seeking a better solution.

Here's my Saddeback after three+ years. Note the thickness of the leather and the integrity of the stitching. 28246

You will see just how good the quality of his products are and not to mention THEY HAVE A 100 YEAR WARRANTY.

Just watch the Dave's Deals section he regularly has wallets on sale in there, I would know because i check it multiples times a day waiting for a thin front pocket briefcase in tobacco @ 25% off :). When looking for a very high quality leather product I will only shop there.

Just be careful because his products are like AR15's/M4's, you can't just have one.

Yes. Some redone Dynaco MK IIIs run the top end of a multi-amped system in my office. Just happens to be on the shelf directly to the left of my (messy) desk.

I've destroyed every nylon and velcro wallet I have ever owned. Tried the Jimi wallet (polymer) and it blow out on me as I dropped it presenting ID boarding an international flight, Murphy and all that.

I use nothing but leather now for the durability, I love this company's products. Thinnest wallets on the market and they hold a lot of stuff.

How do the saddleback id wallets retain cards if you had multiple cards or just one card in each slot after using for a year or so? All the cheaper thin wallets I have stretch to where the cards will just fall out

I have two cards in each slot on the opposite side of the ID slot. They fit snuggly and no chance of falling out. I have two cards in the ID slot. One DL and one school ID card. Behind the ID slot I have 4 or 5 cards. The money slot, in the middle of everything, doesn't fit a ton of cash and can be a bit tight depending on how many cards you have on the outside slots.

I also want to add that my Bellroy is the only wallet I've ever had where I can fit a business check without having to fold it all funny-like.

And how much sweat are you talking about? My fossil wallet has been serving me for about 10 years now and I live in Florida so not sweating isn't an option. A leather wallet should hold up to sweat just fine.

Mine have always done better without smelling than nylon wallets. Same goes for watch bands. It will gather some smell, but not as much as nylon.
Think of the old leather sweat band in the Kevlar helmets.

I'm just going to guess that it has something to do with the ability of magnets to damage the mag strip on cards.

Oh, yeah - it's cheap, too.

T.H.E. Wallet Jr. by SPEC-OPS. Been using one for the last seven years and is still good to go. The "Shark-Bite" closure works as claimed. No "Velcro", has an interior and exterior clear pocket for IDs, and is extremely well stitched and bar-tacked throughout.

You carry a gun to protect yourself and your family, correct? Now carry a wallet that protects all those chips the government and the banks keep cramming in your IDs and credit cards.

The chip in a CAC card isn't a RFID chip is it? RFID is a radio frequency proximity transmitter right?

Some sources say it's just an integrated circuit card and RFID is coming in the future; some say it has RFID properties now. All I know for sure is that when you get a new one, they give you a RFID-blocking sleeve to go with it.

Edit: I forgot, I used the RFID properties to access a gate the other day. It's here now.

Way beyond RFID already.

Apple is going to to unleash NFC on everyone if they like it or not. Android couldn't do it but Apple getting most major card processors and retail outlets in on it......RFID is going to be pushed for other things but not terminal sales. Id rather store my card data on an secure enclave on my phone with an fingerprint needed to unlock the enycrpted code directly to master card or american express than anything dealing with RFID as far as security.

Next week Apple is going to change how we pay for things forever. Not immediately but in 5 years I'd be surprised if I have any type of plastic card.

There is that too, some things really make life harder when they're camouflaged. But I was tearing up my nice leather wallet with all of our hiking (sweating) so I wanted a "field" wallet. But I just liked it so much that it's now my EDC wallet. I would occasionally get uncomfortable sitting on my leather one with how much stuff was in there.

Bought one. Used it for half a week. Back to using my Bellroy.

Frankly, the Trayvax doesn't work very well as a traditional wallet. The bills are hard to get to and the cards aren't much easier to pull out. Does a good job of holding my driver's license and showing off my ugly mug, but not very good at anything else.

I should say that, in fairness, my CLEO is a cheap bastard and my permit is just a laminated piece of paper and therefore significantly larger than your average driver's license or credit card and its presence may have had a negative impact on the function of the Trayvax.
