Stock is a McMillan A4 with water transfer printed digital
That is an Mcm A3 right? A4 is the current usmc stock. Love the print.

Yes, A4 is the current issue stock on the M40A3, therein lies the confusion. I have a plain A4 stock in the pic above your post.
what stock does the middle 308 have jhudson?
what stock does the middle 308 have jhudson?
Ha, that's the A4 from McMillan. ;)
Info on the M40A1???
My M40A1 started out life as a basic SPS. I added:
Shilen #7 barrel, cut & recrown to 24" w/ HD barrel lug
Williams one-piece floor plate
McMillan M40A1 stock
Badger Ordnance base & rings
SuperSniper 10x42
Not exactly mil spec. but close enough for government work & it shoots great. Sub MOA is not hard to do with this rifle.
Beautiful rifle man. That barrel looks great.
Ha, that's the A4 from McMillan. ;)
haha, sorry, had a dumbass attack
The beginnings of my precision journey. Will be upgrading the stock and going with a 5-15X50 optic. The trigger is more than satisfactory as is at 3.5#'s. Not sure if I will go with the Atlass bipod or the Bobro... It will be a long but fun journey that I am excited to begin... Will post updates as I add to it.

I posted once already in this thread but now I'd like to share some details about my rifle. My rifle is a Remington 721, which is the predecessor to the 700. The 700 is more or less a refined version of the 721 and 722 rifles. The action on my rifle is over 50 years old. The rifle was originally a .270 Win. that belonged to my father. It was in our house in 1986 that was burned down due to an electrical wiring problem behind the washer and dryer. The area of the house where the guns were took the least amount of damage and the rifle was more or less undamaged other than the stock and the old Weaver scope that it once wore. It sat untouced after the fire, stored away in my utility shed until a few years ago. I decided to build myself a budget, long range rifle in a common caliber that I can find ammo for almost anywhere. Since the 721 is a long action rifle, I decided on 30-06 Springfield for the caliber. I sent it off to ER Shaw, a budget barrel maker that I had heard produces good results at good prices. They trued the receiver, lapped the lugs, and installed a 24" 30-06 barrel with a 1-10 twist in their number 4 contour using a Badger Ordnance thick recoil lug. I installed a Timney adjustable trigger set to about 3 pounds into a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock after coating it with Norrell's Desert Tan Moly Resin. The stock's barrel channel took a lot of work to get the barrel to fit. I must have sanded on it for a good 4 hours before I was finally able to get the barrel to free float. I also had a long, curved bolt handle installed on the old bolt and installed a new Gre-Tan firing pin assembly. I topped the finished rifle off with a EGW 0 degree cant one piece scope base, Leupold Mark 4 medium height rings and a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 scope. I'm pretty proud of my rifle, mostly for sentimental reasons. Now for some good pictures. (don't mind my yard, it's on my wife's honey-do list)

Here is a 3 shot group at 100 yards with 155 grain Nosler Custom Competition bullets with 56 grains of W760 and Federal large rifle magnum primers. The group measures .312" center to center on the 2 holes farthest from each other. I'm going to try and tighten up the group a little by trying some different loads, but I'm still new to this long range stuff. I enjoy it though, almost as much as blasting away like a mad man with my AR and AK....Almost:smile:

gfelber, it looks like we have similair taste! Same rifle, same stock, and multicam. Here a pic of my rifle build. I'm waiting on the Nightforce scope to come in and am sending my bolt off to get a badger knob put on.
I got the stock dipped by www.dashdip.com. They had a GREAT price, well under $100 for the multicam dip.

I should have done the camo dip like you as $100 is an absolute bargain given all of the prep and paint work I've invested in this project.
Good luck with yours!

Just bought this two weeks ago.
I plan to replace the stock, and buy a bipod and a sling.
For right now I'm just trying to learn how to shoot it as is.

My gun is not very tactical right now, but will be getting a makeover next summer.

Great job painting multicam with Duracoat! I did the same thing to my rifle so I know how much time and effort it took you to get the multicam pattern to look right.

Brilliant! I think yours look better than mine, but thanks for the compliment.
Indeed, multicam is rather difficult to do correctly. Not necessarily difficult to apply (assuming one is patient), but perhaps difficult to employ using the correct color palette. The grouping/clustering of colors seems to be the key.

My Non-Tactical looking,,Tactical Precision Rifle !! ;) I have had this thing for over 20 years and it still is a amazing rifle. Its a standard Rem 700 Varmint Special in 7mm08,,all I ever did was put a Timiney Trigger in it and shoot it !! I have killed woodchucks from point blank range out to 400 yards with it and it will shoot 3 shots into a Inch(Or less) from 100/300 yards,,(farthest I have ever shot at paper). Great rifle,,,I have always wanted to change the stock,,scope etc,,just never got around to it,,maybe someday !! The Scope is a oldie also,,bought it with the rifle,,,Burris 6x18xwhatever,,LOL,have to check !

It's your typical Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308.
It's wearing a Choate tactical stock, and a Nikon Prostaff 3x-9x BDC scope sitting in Leupold rings and one piece base, and a harris 6"-9" bipod.
With my handloads, I've been getting .5-.7 MOA groups at 100yds.
I shoot a 700 MilSpec 5R:

Have you fired subsonic loads out of this rifle yet? If so what is your maximum effective range?
No i haven't, so I really couldn't tell you. I would test that if I came across some match subsonic ammo.
I think Lapua makes some. I've just been to lazy to buy some though.
As quiet as it is now I can only imagine what it would be with subsonic

Buddy spotting for me while I shoot my AR at 100 yards.
Cheapo Mossberg bolt gun that I'm currently stuck with right now for deer. I got it right after I turned 17, and while it's definitely no R700 with decent glass on top, it will at least hit what I'm aiming at until I learn to do better. I need a stock pack for it because there is little cheekweld when I'm prone. Either way I had fun shooting today. Only problem is .30-06 is a little abusive after a box or so.
And yes, I krylon'd it myself. I did a real quick job of it, only spent a total of about an hour and a half over two days doing it and it blends in pretty well where I live, surprisingly. When I re-do it, I'll probably do some type of pattern other than random streaks and spots of color, and use leaves, pine straw, something next time.
Eventually I plan to get a Landtec build or, failing that, GA Precision. However, being a broke student who works part time, I gotta go with what I can afford for now.

Calm down with the pics!
We don't need to see every pic from your memory card. Pick a few good ones and that's plenty enough. Common etiquette.

600yds/2" Dot: First 3 shots at 600 just by dialing the cam and pulling the trigger. Not bad, about a 2.75" spread. There was just a little wind that day. It showed up more when I went out to 700. The range I shoot at has trees on either side of the shooting lane until about 500, but then opens up, so you don't feel the wind from the shooting position, but it's there further out, so reading mirage becomes important.

Thanks Th3,
I just got it in a trade. With six feet of snow on ground and another two coming in the next two days, range time is a tad difficult.:D
For now, I'm just picking up some accessories and waiting for the thaw.

That's a nice rifle. However, I'm not sure a Walnut-stocked Browning A-bolt hunting rifle with a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x50 and no turrets counts as "Tactical".

Picked up this 770 in .308 on saturday. It's not uber tacticool, nor is it a 700. But as long as it's fairly accurate, that's all I care about.

Here's my first R700. I specced out what I wanted then called Charley Robertson at Score High in Albuquerque and he added his suggestions then set to work. It started life as a 243 SPS.

It's now a 6.5x47 Lapua and once I found a load it liked it started shooting like this all day long. That's a 200 yard target.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn42/N183CS/100_4490.jpg
My only complaints are the barrel is too heavy for my liking and I can't seem to find the time to load ammo for it.

I personally took that picture, strait from my Android....so feel free to spread it. I posted this picture after a day at the range, I never thought it would get as much attention as it did. I am so used to dealing with guys like this every day an this kind of motivation is just part of that everyday routine in the Sniper community. It is what separates us from the rest. Jason is one of my instructors. He is a super motivated USMC Scout Sniper and one hell of an inspiration to our community. He is one of 3 personal friends that I have that lost their legs from IED's. I took this picture about 5 months ago and it spread like wild-fire. Even had Major General Nichols ask us to recreate it so they could take a high resolution picture.
Please spread it, post it on every forum that you can't find it on. Let the opposition know, that you can come as hard as you want...but we will still come back and shoot you in the face from 1000yds off the fake leg you gave us, and let America know we are the ones guarding the gate.

marco.g very nice rifle. What size is that Premier? 3-15x50mm? How do you like it?
Thank you!
Its the 3-15x50 Light tactical. 30mm instead of 34mm tube as on the Heritage and no tool-less zero. So far I'm loving it. (roughly 8oz lighter is a major plus too)
Well see how it performs this hunting season as it was great on the square range with good lighting. Excited to see its low light performance.

Not sure where you're from, but here in GA, our deer don't get as big as the Midwestern and Northern deer. A 180lb deer is pretty big. This 9pt isn't my biggest, but still respectable around here. Here's another angle:
http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab104/ASH556/10222011275.jpg
Sorry about that. Forgive my ignorance. I hope you didn't take it as a slam... I was just curious.
Yeah, we grow bigger deer and bigger antlers up here in South Dakota! Here's my big boy from last year. 145" and weighed in about 300lbs. I'm 6'1" and 220lbs... for size comparison. He was big enough that dragging him by myself was a chore.
http://www.gregd.net/pics/deer_hunting/archery/IMG_4657.JPG
No offense taken, that's a fine animal you have there! Here's my biggest: 125" 10pt (Broken G4 on left only counted as 1"). He was 180lb dressed and drew a crowd at the processors for his body size.
Maybe one day I'll take a trip for one of those bigger deer y'all have out West.

I hope they let you shoot a bunch of them! I'd starve if my deer were that small. haha!

That's a picture of predator, and prey. The predator is the one with his heart still beating! ;)

Just a heads up for anyone looking for a substantially less expensive spotting scope cover.
Creedmore Sports sells durable spotting scope covers for most major scopes for around $40 bucks and are very nice quality. They beat the hell out of what Swarovski wants for theirs. I could buy 6 or 8 Creedmores for the price of one Swaro cover.

Your thought has something to do with taking this target and putting it on your refrigerator so you can boast about what a good shot you are. The same goes for the first four that act the same way. They are going on the fridge, or you are going to show it off to your buddies or something of that nature.
When this thought goes through your head, you will shift your body in an imperceptible way. You will not know that you did it, and you will swear that you didn’t. Because of this small shift, your last shot is blown out of the group.
I do it all the time!!!
I always have one lil guy that's off, but I often think that's the ammo.
Those are all .3 MOA groups.

Sweet rig! I'm definitely going to copy your shooting bag! haha (I know I have a couple of crown black bags around here some where) :D
A TRG is on my wish list like no other.
I will own one for sure one.
308, 300WM or 338 has yet to be decided.
My first foray into bolt guns. I have shot a team members' 700 duty rifle exactly 3 rounds, but that's my experience with bolt actions.
I started small with a Howa 1500 .223 since this will be mostly a fundamentals paper puncher with the occasional varmit slaying out of the window of the pole barn. If I dig it as much as I think I will, the new year will be bad for my wallet, I'm sure.
I am planning on getting a new stock like the B&C Medalist Tactical or similar, but that's about it. I'm considering threading it for my can, but I don't think I want the ugly QD on the end of it.

Hi all. I've been saving up for along time and was finally able to get a Nightforce scope (NXS 3.5-15x50 F1) a few weeks ago. I recieved a 5R for my birthday last year and have since painted it myself with duracoat. I recently got the scope painted up and mounted. I hope to be able to get out and shoot in the next few weeks when I get some free time and see how she does. In the future I plan on getting a Jewell trigger, a Badger Ordinance detachable magazine (maybe,) scope padded cover, stock pack for ammo and my databooks, quick cuff sling and a supressor, likely an AAC 300-SD. I'm waiting on some more matte clear finish to take away some of the gloss and seal everything up. I definenently took some ideas from this article. This reminds me of one of those I once had and let get away from me. It was a Remington 700RS (synthetic stock, 22" sporter weight barrel with iron sights) in .30-06. IIRC, I had some kind of mid/upper-end Tasco 3-9 scope on it and with handloaded 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips (I think I was using IMR 4064), it would clover leaf 3 shots at 100. It was light and handy, and I took a few Whitetails with it in NY. The Nosler BTs were explosive out of the '06 and would drop 'em right on the spot.
Probably the only thing to watch for is if the wood stock moves/swells/shrinks with temperature and moisture.
Edit - for a lightweight build (and something suitable for the Randy Cain course), here is an optic worth a look;

..........Something is seriously wrong with me these days, I'm finding more and more bolts appealing
Tell me about it!
I was never all that interested in bolt guns until I got bored one day and ran through here, and a few other places.
I saw the AI stuff and I was like WOOOOAH!!!!!
All downhill after that- now I MUST Have One.....
I forsee very little saving of money in the forseeable future.
