View Full Version : Storm Lake M&P Threaded Barrels
Ever since I got my first S&W M&P, I have been after a threaded barrel for it. I finally got my account setup with Storm Lake and picked up some of their threaded 9mm barrels. I got the barrels threaded in 1/2X28 as this is one of the more common thread pitches for suppressors.
Storm Lake advised me that I would see better groups out of their barrel and I would have to say they are right. The gun is shooting tighter groups.
I am using the AAC Evolution and running 147gr Sub Sonic ammo through it without a hitch. No malfunctions at all. :D

Are they giving any thought to .45?
Are they giving any thought to .45?
Those barrels are available.

Grant, what kind of accuracy increase did you see with the Storm Lake bbl? Having shot the 9mm and .45 M&P I've found the .45 to be considerably more accurate then the 9. I was wondering if the Storm Lake bbl in the 9 brought it on par with the stock .45 bbl?

Joe, I am going to shoot some groups with the factory barrel and the SL barrel side by side and take some pics.

Does Storm Lake have thread protectors Grant or are you going to have some made up?
I was wondering how long it would take before some one would start making threaded barrels for the M&P series. To bad I cant have a can in this state! Stupid Assachussetts!!
Grant, are the DI or fitted?

How much are they, or did I miss that?

The threaded M&P barrels are $164. None threaded models are cheaper.

Question, does anyone think the pics I posted were too big? Did you have to scroll to see them?
Thanks for the feedback.

I'm definitely interested to see your accuracy results, Grant. If I may, I'd suggest you use both a high-pressure load and a low-pressure load (like WWB). The stock M&P barrels do great with the higher pressure stuff in my experience but some don't do great with stuff on the low end.
The Storm Lake barrels are 1:16, right? Smith uses an oddball twist for their 9mm pistols based on their .38 Special experience, 1:18.75 ...
The M&P9 I'm running now shoots 1.5-2" groups with good ammo, and I'm really locked out of putting in an aftermarket barrel until the 50k test is done. But it would be great to know if/how much the Storm Lake barrel improves things.
Pics were perfect--no scrolling on my laptop.

Roger. I most likely have some +P 9mm and UMC 9mm so I will be able to test accuracy both ways.

Grant,
Pictures are perfect. I tend to like the higher resolution and size. Better perspective!
Is the price listed your price for sale at your web site? Storm lake list's them considerably higher. if so when might you be stocking them?
Very nice! Grant, I'd like to buy one for my M&P9.
Do you have any of the 9mm Conversion barrels that Storm Lake is making for the M&P series as well? With the rising cost of ammo I'd bet that they would be very popular.

I don't believe that you need any special paperwork to move to another state;)
Hey Grant, nevermind about the conversion barrel question. I went to your website and saw that you do indeed carry them.
I'm going to go ahead and order a threaded barrel for my M&P9!
I'd love a threaded one for my MP45 if/when Storm Lake decides to produce them in .45ACP.
Stan
if storm lake would blind mark them and have them in black id buy one today.
