Gents,

I'm looking for recommendations on a useful zero distance for my .300 BlackOut AR pistol build.

It has an 8.5" Rainier barrel & I'm running a non-magnified Vortex Razor 3moa mini red dot.

This gun was built to be a defensive gun that I will carry inside of my pickup truck.

I will primarily be running supersonic factory ammo.

I run a 100yd zero on my 5.56 work ARs with non-magnified optics so I'm curious if a 100yd zero is practical for the .300 BlackOut as well.

All suggestions are appreciated.

If all your other rifles are zeroed for 100 then try it with the 300blk and then with your chosen load confirm POI at 25, 50, 150, 200, ect to see how well it matches what you are used to working with. In all honestly I doubt you'll be taking a shot beyond 100 meters in a real SD situation, but it is nice to know you can hit at longer ranges.

Silvers recommends a 200 yard which is a bit high at 100 and a bit low at 200. YMMV.

I have an 8.2 inch 300blk AR pistol I just assembled. I'm going with a 25 yard zero for two reasons. First, if it's reliable it will be more for the house. Second, I have easy access to a 25 yard range to practice and confirm zero. As far as I can tell it should be minute of man out to 200 yards with supersonic ammo. I think most of the data our there is for 16 inch barrels, so I'm not sure how the short barrel will do.

Nickdrak what buffer are you using?

It has been running perfectly with a standard carbine spring and buffer but im going to experiment with an "H" and "H2" buffer.

I'm confused. How would a 200 zero be low at 200? 200 is the zero.

sorry, i meant 300. i admit tho that i personally run a 25 like FourXFour for the same reasons.

My 16" barreled AR carbine is zeroed at 50 yards. When I shoot at 50 its dead on and when I shoot at 100 it is also dead on. At 50 the bullet is rising through the line of sight and at 100 it is dropping back through that same line of sight. I'll be zeroing my new 8" pistol at 50 yards too. For a SD gun why zero longer than that?

you can play with some ballistics charts on JBM and get a good idea of what YOU want to do.

My 300BLK SBR shoots a diet of about 95% subs. I have my Aimpoint T1 zero'd at 70 yards which gives me +-1" out to 100 yards. Beyond that it drops like a brick.

For the cases where I might be shooting supers(hunting or slightly longer range) I swap on my Vortex 2.5-10x32 and I know where my zero is on the dials for the 110g Vmax or 110g Blacktips so I just dial the dials and off I go. I zero'd that at 100 yards and know my dials/holds for closer and further.

It has been running perfectly with a standard carbine spring and buffer but im going to experiment with an "H" and "H2" buffer.

My bolt was not locking back when I shot 125 grain Gorilla ammo with the H2 buffer. It locked back fine with 125 grain Remington.

I tried the H buffer and could not get the bolt to lock back with Gorilla. I then tried a carbine buffer and it worked perfectly. I'm low on ammo and I will eventually try Fiocchi next.

Ran it with an "H" and "H2" buffer today with supersonic loads and the bolt locked back every-time. I'm pretty sure the added back-pressure from the Noveske KX5 helps a good bit as well.
