A while back there was discussion of the idea of a rail extender. A member at the time said he planned on taking a crack at that, but don't recall any follow up. For those with Monolithic Upper designs, or those who want to extend existing rails without changing them etc, could be an excellent option no? I have a Colt 6940 because it was my best option at the time. No complaints but the rail is short. I'm not sure if there's a market big enough to make it worth the time and effort for some company to produce a well designed rail extender but I figured I'd follow up and see what the status is.

Will,
Not sure if this is what your thinking of, but check this out:

I have one and Steve (the owner) is a heck of decent guy to deal with in addition to offering a nice piece of kit
Hope this helps!

Are we talking about rail extensions like the ones for the SCAR?
I am honestly not sure if it would be that viable, unless we are talking about extensions for certain rails, just as Colt's monolithic rail due to the differences width and height of various rails. Unless I am missing something, which is more than possible.

Thanx for the info. Sort of in line with what I was thinking and i might get one at some point. I was thinking of something that would literally look like a rail attached to the rail to increase its length, if that makes sense. Probably makes little sense to produce such a thing when most guns can simply replace their rails.

Closest thing I could find.

Samson should think about making mounting options for different rail systems.

Very interesting, thanks. I was looking for a similar solution for my AK74. Zenitco out of Russia has a similar product that extends the rail outward like this but it's not available for purchase yet in the USA, and shipping from Moscow is expensive.

I'll look into this. A bit expensive for what it is, but I would rather buy something made here with support here if needed.

That's exactly what I was thinking of! If it existed for different rail systems, that would be a winner. Any have any experience with such a thing?

Looks like Colt is going to be producing exactly what you are describing for the new LE 6940AE-3G. Look at the below-linked video at around the 55 second mark. There is clearly some kind of rail extension that is attached to the monolithic rail. However, I would be concerned that this new rail + extension might not be compatible with the classic LE 6940. By the way, that rail on the 6940AE-3G looks horrible.

check 55 second mark.

I saw it, thanx. That does look like exactly what I'm interested in.

If you run a vfg at the front end of the handguard, I find that it rotates the wrist angle forward and make the rail feel a little longer than it is.

I also have a 6940 and I would definitely buy a rail extender. I've always liked FSP rails, and if it's done right, that could be a real winner.

The bjet is a fantastic product, Steve is great to communicate with and ships quickly. I was concerned at first that it was overly complicated for the task at hand but after install I couldn't be happier with the robust-ness.
