I've been researching suppressors for my 16" PredatAR 7.62. A chief concern is the lightweight bbl profile. I'm obviously looking for a can that's light and short. The purpose of the rifle is more a walking around rifle than bench/fixed firing position rig, which is why I opted for the PredatAR over the PredatOBR and OBR in the first place.

The QD cans that are light still have the additional weight of their respective muzzle devices. I'm seeing more and more positive feedback regarding the Thunder Beast cans and it's got me thinking... Why not get their thread on "moderator" (30PSS).

I understand it will be louder than most other cans. I don't need it to be super quiet - I'm looking to aid with control and make it quieter. I've learned my lesson regarding the BS marketing claims of minimal POI shift.

Leaving the 30PSS on the rifle gives me:
- Only 9.7oz at the muzzle
- No added cost of a muzzle device
- Not having to worry about a zero change with or without the can
- A rifle that is still handy in terms of OAL and target transitions

Has anyone tried this - leaving a can on full time? I know QD cans are more popular but I don't imagine needing that feature. If I really need to take it off I can reinstall the hider. I have a hard time envisioning needing to quickly add or remove it. Even if I have a baffle strike I can shoot sans hider if it's an emergency. Has anyone used an ultra short/light can? Will I be disappointed with the performance?

Thanks!

A lot of people leave cans on full time.

I've never seen that can in person, but there's nothing in their own description (in the link you provided) that would cause me to spend my money on it.

It is short, and light, and would knock down some of the noise...but I wouldn't throw $900-$1000 on it after stamp.

Why not a harvester? It's not meant for rapid fire but they are light - 11.3oz

That was my first thought. It was the length that caused me not to recommend it. The Harvester is not as delicate as the initial description may have portrayed. Silencer Shop and Silencerco made this video (http://youtu.be/wWGvMV45C5s) to dispel the myth it was fragile.

The length isn't a deal breaker per se. I just wanted to keep the hardiness of the rifle. Another one I thought about was the Sandstorm from Gem-tech. Its just over 13oz and shy of 8".

It's tough to get a feel for them without handling them in person. It's also frustrating that some companies list the decibel amount with their can while others list the amount of reduction.

Thanks for the inputs.
