I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the Walther PPQ M2 22LR.
I'm looking for a good starter pistol to teach my son on, once he's old enough. And something for plinking.
Will it shoot a variety of 22lr reliably?

Starting with a target grade gun is a much better way to go than any of the current "combat trainers" which offer far less accuracy and less than optimal trigger pulls. Practicing the fundamentals on a gun with much better accuracy potential ( ruger mark1/2/3 buck mark any number of older used target guns) will get you much further ahead in the long run.

Is there are particular variant of the buck mark that you would suggest?

I'm partial to the ruger 22/45. Thousands of rounds no issues.
Also the Rugers and buck marks tend to like a wider range of 22 ammo.

I've tried using a P220/22LR and while it was decent, it wasn't like a purpose built 22LR.

So I've gone to a Beretta 87 and a pair of Ruger Mark IIs (one stainless 5.5" Bull Barrel with adjustable sights and a 4" (?) tapered barrel in black w/ fixed sights).

The Beretta is a nice shooter, not crazy accurate but it's quiet as hell with a suppressor and cool as hell.

The Rugers just run, and run, and run with everything I feed them. Accurate, fun busting clays out to 25yds, parts abound.

I've shot a Buckmark and it's nice, but went with Rugers for no other reason that I bought a 22/45 on impulse years ago (didn't like the poly frame after awhile and sold it, but the all metal Mark IIs are awesome).

Another vote for the Ruger. I had a Buckmark years ago, but it was not as reliable as I hoped.
For something to pass down to your son, the Ruger is pretty much the gold standard for .22 pistols.

Nothing wrong with the PPQ 22.

Its trigger pull is actually lighter than the PPQs.......reset is not as good, but the pull is as good.

I love mine. Eats everything I've put thru it.

The .22LR PPQ is an Umarex-made pistol.

Pass.
