Hello M4C. I am looking to buy some ammo in bulk in the next few months for upcoming classes and training opportunities. Recently I went half in with another gentleman on 1,000 rds of 62GR 5.56 from freedom munitions. We were both anticipating American made stuff upon order, and that is not what we received. The ammo shoots fine for range ammo, and I have had zero issues with it, but going forward I may go another route on bulk 5.56.

I am currently looking for range 9mm and 45. FMJ obviously, 230 GR 45 preferably, and in 9mm 124 GR is usually what I run in my Glock 19 and my Shield. What are some of your guys' recommendations? What do you typically run that is well priced and reliable? Self defense ammo is a whole other ball game and I understand that. I have been looking at HPR and Freedom munitions today and Freedom seems to be really well priced but of course I have heard the negative stories of their handgun ammo being unreliable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was seeing a lot of bad stuff about HPR online about 2 years ago, but don't actually know anyone who's shot any of it. Freedom Munition usually has pretty good pricing and I haven't heard of any issues with them for quite some time. They're usually the first place I'll check, aside from gunbot maybe. I have a good amount of their ammo stored, but haven't shot much. Several guys, including Pannone, were running it at his class I took in May. None seemed to have any issues. I really like the 62 gr Magtech stuff Grant sells. I'm not sure I can really tell a difference between most ammo so its probably all placebo just because I've seen so much good stuff on here about it, but I liked it quite a bit. I think Grant holds the rest of their line in fairly high regard as well.

I have shot maybe 2.5k of the 115gr Magtechs without a single hiccup. If the 124s are anything like it then I would not hesitate going that route.

62gr Magtech for 556 & 115gr for 9mm, have replaced all non self defense ammo needs.

I appreciate these responses so far. I believe I am going to go with the 115gr Magtechs when I get paid next week. That seems like a fantastic deal though, especially if you have ran that many without any hiccups Sasahara.

Look at gunbot.com. They search all sellers and list them by price.

Magtech is the way to go.

Magtech is the brand name of several companies under CBC/Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos. CBC is a Brazilian company with worldwide manufacturing plants. Although I can't speak for their handgun ammo, the 556 rifle is good to go.

I used to be vested in American made products and to some extent, I still am, but ammunition isn't one of them. If it's a Western friendly country then it's just as good as US made for me as long as the quality and price is right.

As a matter of fact, I refuse to buy American made cars. Full of union/Obama workers, have been bailed out by the US government, other than Ford, but still hate them for the previous reasons. Would much rather buy Honda or Toyota. Plenty of non-union American jobs at various American plants.

Really cannot go wrong with Magtech as far as I can tell. Their QC seems extremely good and I have never had to toss a round out because it didnt look right. Wish I could say the same about some of the other companies I have tried out and found split cases and lips folded over when the bullet was seated.

I would love to hear more feedback about freedom munitions bulk stuff. Not a ton of information about it really. Tempting because it's cheaper but not if it's garbage.

FWIW I shoot a bit of it and have never had any problems. Are you looking at the new or reman? I usually buy the reman because it's a little cheaper, but do buy the new when they have good deals. All rounds I have purchased have looked and functioned with out issue.

FM offers a brass trade in program so I would think that is what they use for the reman. How many times is it advisable/recommended to reload a case, and how many times has the case been reloaded??

Since I have not had any issues I assume/hope they have a good quality control program.

Personally I would be willing to try both reman and new. I will probably start with a few boxes of new and see for myself. Thanks!

I've run a lot of PMC (Mostly rifle, but a good bit of 9mm too), S&B (A shit ton in 9mm and like it a lot), After that I have shot a good bit of the Federal XMXXX in 5.56. Have some of the CBC sitting in my stock for testing. Also shot a lot of American Eagle ammo as well. Wolf too when I am too lazy to pick up brass.

As far as reman ammo goes. After my previous experiences with reman ammo from several manufacturers, seeing a lot of shitty QC, light charges, ect, I just can not trust it. Not saying all reman ammo is junk but for me the savings is just not enough to justify the risk.

In another thread we were just discussing the Blazer types of ammo on the market. As I noted, I just came across aluminum cased ammo from Federal, this and the CCI Blazer line is excellent ammo that I wouldn't...and don't..think twice about stocking up and shooting all I can from it. Personally, ME..I trust it more than remanufactured ammo. I had a BAD experience that I wrote about here on the forum with a brand called ZERO ammo a couple years ago, and that's exactly how much remanufactured ammo im gonna buy, or shoot...ZERO.

The reason I like gunbot is it gives you choices of manufacture, prices, ect. Here is a sample of their site.

I have shot most all of the better bulk ammo out there and nothing beats Magtech's line. They are also one of the few (if not only) companies that makes a 62gr FMJ WITHOUT the steel core. Fantastically accurate and reliable ammo.

Not in the "Bulk" category but excellent ammo if you want precision and excellent terminal balistics - if your rifle can stabilize it (1:7 twist):

I've shot Freedom Munitions 124gr 9mm REMAN and 55gr 223 REMAN exclusively for 3gun, 2gun, USPSA and USCA events and various HSP and Costa classes for the last 3 years. 6500rds of 124gr 9mm REMAN and 9970 rounds(30rds left in my last ammo can) of 55gr 223 REMAN and I've only had a dozen or 2 malfunctions, mostly in the 55gr REMAN stuff, mostly bad primers.

Just ordered 5000 more 124gr 9mm REMAN and 5000 more 55gr REMAN.

I had the same issue. The 62gr green tip 556 from freedom in the white boxes is the only stuff I've had from them they don't make themselves. Everything else is made by them and has been top quality so far

Am I reading something wrong? $40 for 250 rounds?

ETA: Never mind; added to cart, and it was 50 rd box. Still a good deal though

How about good reliable and accurate bulk for a 308?
