I was recently able to buy 3 kinds of 00 buckshot. I wanted a #1 or #4 buckshot. But these kinds of ammo are very rare here in the Philippines.

1.) Federal Classic 00 buckshot
2.) RC4 00 buckshot (italian?)
3.) Armscor 00 (philippine made)

I have a benelli m3 kromo with 18.5 barrel and full mag extension. (flush with barrel)

M3 barrels are cylinder choke. or no choke.

the armscor would have all the 9 pellets in an ipsc target @20yards but at 25 yards... it's not worth mentioning...

what do you guys think about the Federal and RC4 will they be better?

Its been so long I cant recall. I was good IIRC up to 20 or 25yds then i got a stray or so.

I prefer Federal tactical w/ the flight control wad which is still plenty accurate at 25yds, all COM

I was looking for the federal tactical. which a study shows that it was slightly better.

I have been using Federal LE 132 for about 10 years and I like it. Also ammoman had some deals on 12 ga. ammo very recently.

I think that for the price and preformance, Federal makes the best stuff out there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for types of shotgun ammo to use for defense in an apartment?

apartment.??? hmm... #4 buckshot? or if you're still afraid of penetration.. how about #4 birdshot? but its going to cause wound channels. not 100% fatal

I keep all my scatterguns (3 Mossburg 500 Persuaders) loaded with #4 buckshot...but thats just for home defense...I don't go kickin in doors with it or anything.

Have you paterned the gun with the above mentioned ammo? This is the only way to tell. All shot gun barels are unique (Louis Awerbuck's knowledge, not mine) I tested three guns and federal Flight control was the most consistant and produced the best patterns out of ten brands/loads. Buy some targets and some ammo and head to the range. IDPA/IPSC "option" type targets are great. I made an eight inch circle centerd in the chest on them and added an X for an aiming point.

I've fired a limited amount of Federal Classic 00...it shot well out a Benelli M1 and 870. I can't comment on the poll's other choices as I have no experience with those loads; I shoot what my agency issues....Winchester Ranger Low Recoil (LR) 00 buck (RA12005)...runs well in our duty 870s, my personal 870, and Saiga 12.

I tried it in a buddy's Benelli M1014. Constant malfunctions consisting of mostly failures-to-eject. It ran my duty Winchester Ranger LR slugs (RA12RS15) with no problems though.

curious about the federal classic in your m1.

what's the specs on your m1? barrel length? choke? how did the federal classic 00 do at 25yards?

Still learning here and there's quite a lot to absorb per sitting session. If using Federal, does it make a difference using steel or lead shot?

It dose not matter that much to anything that you shoot with it, but may matter to you, if your going to eat it when its dead... ;)

this thread was suppose to discuss the buckshot 00 as a defensive round.

what I meant was that does federal classic 00 buckshot group well at 25yards?

Yes...

None of the above!

You need to try the Federal "Flite Control Wad" 00 Buck. 3- 4" patterns at 15 yds, and all pellets in the kill zone at 25 yds with an 18" IC choke factory barrel.

Absolutely amazing the first time you try it.

toddackerman,

that would be great... but i'll have to look for that type of shotshell over here. and... my shotgun is cylinder choke.

Cylinder or Imp. Cylinder....doesn't matter. This is the tightest patterning 00 buck out there.

Does it have to be the "LE" (Law Enforcement) version? I see otherwise with the FliteControl Wadding being offered from Federal.

No. The non-LEO is good to go. It's all in the wad. It's pretty darn remarkable.

I use the TAP-FDP 00 buck in my Mossberg 500 Marine based on the recomendation of several Officers I have worked with. I did some testing and it holds a nice tight pattern to 15 yards and puts all the pellets in the target at 25.

Looking that up right now. Looks like I'm going to have to give that Hornady a try. Thanks!
