I'd really like to have a midlength rail for my carbine but i can get a good deal on a surefire rail. surefire doesn't make a mid length for a carbine so i get the 7".
unless...can i change the carbine gas system to a midlength?

The rails are just ok IMHO.

You cannot make a carbine gas system into a mid-length.

Some better carbine rails would be:

Daniel Defense Omega
Troy MRF-C
KAC RAS

If you don't look into a Troy 7" MRF-DI, then you really are missing out on one of the most well-made, solid and functional rails out there and the price point is really difficult to fathom beating....A lot of rails talk the talk and walk the walk, but few do it as well as a Troy which is half the price of many....

MI is solid, Ive got a lot of friends using MI. I just orders a surefire m82 for myself mainly cause it was very under priced even for a used one ($75, and it looks in good condition) Ive heard nothing but good things about MI though, also a used KAC rail if you can find a deal is very affordable.
