View Full Version : What sling do you use on your pistol?
I thought this was a good subject for discussion as there are many new pistol owners including me. The intended use and size may vary from standard experience with full size rifles and carbines. Also, being pistols not rifles this allows ccw holders new carry or transportation methods in vehicles in many areas. There are seemingly slight differences in an AR rifle and pistol but would like to hear from those with more experience on running a sling on a pistol.
I have always used BFG 2 point slings on my full size rifles. I find this works for me with a full size, longer, heavier rifle as my training days are long and this seems more comfortable.
I intend to use my pistol for home defense and as a truck gun when on road trips. I will also use it as a backup to my training rifle. I would also like to take it through a class or two. This is my first pistol, I want to keep it simple and light. It's built on an 11.5 BCM upper and wears Magpul sl handguards, a Surefire, an Aimpoint and now I need a sling, thats about it. I may try to go with a single point this time as the pistol now is simple, small and light and it would be nice to keep it that way.
How do you guys run your slings on your pistols? What sling, attachment end plates do you use? Are there any concerns about qd with a single point?

I was thinking about a set up as simple as I could find. No buckles or latches to break, no qd for me to somehow make fail and dump my pistol(still can't figure out how to not break crap). I like this simple sling but not sure what end plate to use. http://www.tacticalassaultgearstore.com/cqcsinglehooksling.aspx
I put a Troy dual QD endplate on my pistol with Sig Brace, and I use the Magpul MS4 sling because I can use it as a 2-point sling or a single point. The rail I have on my pistol has built in QD, so i mostly run my sling in 2-point configuration. I've never been a big fan of a single point sling because I feel like the rifle moves around way too much when slung, but if you're only thinking of home defense or truck gun, that might not matter as you won't have it slung for long periods of time.
Not sure if this is the end-state configuration, but currently running an early non-padded VCAS on my recently acquired P516. Front attachment is a QD on a old
VTAC Low Profile Sling Mount and the rear is threaded through the top of the Sig Brace. Not much range time on this, time will tell. We'll also see what other are doing.
Thanks for the question...........................
The sling I'm using is a padded VTAC 2-point. At the rear, I used a ring to attach the sling to the strap of the arm brace

At first, the front was simply looped around the delta ring

but I didn't care for how it carried as the charging handle kept poking me. Now, the sling loops through the forward most slot in the MOE handguard with a buckle on the inside to lock it into place and I don't get poked anymore. The heat shield protects the sling from the barrel heat and so far, there is no sign of melting. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of the set up
I have been using a frank proctor "way of the gun" sling. No issues with running it attached to the rear of the brace. It will depend on how tightly your brace fits on your buffer tube for proper use. I tried the rear of the receiver mounts, but I seem to remember them being more user friendly in the past, but I could get over the way the sling (a VCAS) fit when the rifle was shouldered.

When I read the topic I thought, "What the frack? A sling for a pistol?" Then I realized we were talking about a "pistol"-pistol.
LOL. Thanks for the chuckle.

I use a Proctor WOTG sling. Simple, no nonsense, or additional attachments.

+1 this, sling works great.

Same here! I was thinking it was one of those bungee cords you hook on the bottom of the mainspring housing or something.

VCAS with a BCM qd mount on the front and a qd end plate (came with my kak pistol tube). It's the same thing I run on all my other rifles and I try to keep things simple.

This method works great for me.
I like a single point with some bungee (BDS right now ) in it attached to an ASAP.
I use a BFG 221 (padded VCAS a with a Burnsed socket and QD swivels), QD end plate, and an IWC 45 deg offset swivel mount just in front of the optic.
With the Burnsed socket and QD endplate, switching from 2 point to 1 point is easy and places the weapon perfectly.
Same basic set-up I have on my 14.5, with the exception of that rifle having a QD mount in the stock. The sling started with a regular padded VCAS and I later added the Burnsed socket for a single point option (never use it though, prefer two point with a longer rifle).
Bumping this thread due to all the pistol talk. Also, thought this article might help some. Personally, not really a fan of single points, but I know some are and might find something helpful written here:

Another vote for the Proctor sling. Love the simplicity of it.
I use a Redi-Mag Two-Point Tactical Quick Adjust Sling. http://www.redi-mag.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=26
Attachment points are the QD point at the back of my ALG Ergo Rail and the QD point built into my Thordsen Enhanced Buffer Tube Cover.
I run the sling differently than most - I adjusted it for a sling locked out CQB firing position at full sling extension and whacked off most of the excess webbing - my wife did the sewing and cutting. From a tight carry position I can pull the tab forward loosening the sling enough to get into a good sling assisted firing position.
I do it this way because I cut my teeth on the MP5 using the sling for CQB - with a red dot sight the pistol AR works excellent in this mode.
I made my own from some '78 Plymouth Volare seatbelt. Gonna sew one up once I get it how I want it and find some non knock off paraclips, this one is just chicago screwed. Quick to adjust and super comfortable, I just wish I would have made on sooner. I'll probably try making a single point sling also later.
Rear is hooked to a magpul asap plate. I need to pick up a side sling mount for the front since it kind of binds in the bottom mount.

I use a Magpul MS3 attached via a VLTOR QD receiver end plate and a Magpul RSA up front, just like my rifles except the MATEN, to heavy for that setup.
I like single point for SBRs and two point for 14"+
The same sling that is on my carbine, a Blackhawk three point sling.
I use a BFG 2point sling on everything.....including my Glocks.....
