I like to use the thicker covers (Tango Down, KAC, etc) where I actually grab the rail and ladders elsewhere or if I have a VFG on the gun.

I personally like the ladder rail covers myself. I use them all over my DD rail.;)

Magpul's Ladder and XT Textured Rails is what I use.

I prefer the ladder type covers for my AR's that are without a forward grip.
The full covers make the overall diameter too large to fit my hands comfortably.

Currently, I'm using TD's on bottom rails, KAC on the sides, and ladders on top. The reason I use ladders on top, my theory here, is to not block as much of the cooling vents on top. I use the TD's on bottom because my hand slides along them better than the KAC's. As in after a reload, I grab the rifle at the rear and slide my hand forward. The KAC's ribs help me to "lock on" better, while the TD's do provide positive purchase. I may have put a little too much thought into it, but it works for me.:D I do have some Magpul XTM's on order, so things are subject to change.

i don't like any of the covers with "corners" on them. so it's TD for me.

For ease of install and removal I prefer the ladders for the top rail. Other than that, I've used both KAC covers and Tangodown covers. For the price and color selection I prefer Tangodown covers. There also easy to cut down to any specific size.

Like the idea of the XTM covers but how are they packaged and at what price are they?

I like surefire ladder covers on everything except 1 TD on the bottom of my 9"rail. that has a x-300 @ 12:00. The added thickness feels better than the ladder.

The surefire ladders have also have a tacky feel. For some reason I like the groove that runs down middle of the cover. It just feels right.
