What was the mission?

I believe that it was reported to be a commercial rocket contracted by NASA, sending supplies to the international space station.

According to NPR: Commercial rocket, contracted by NASA. Mission was chiefly resupply: Food, water, clothing. Some experiments, too.

Well I guess one lonely and frustrated astronaut isn't getting this month's issue of HUSTLER.

Yeah... NASA is saying that they have plenty of food and water aboard the ISS and that it isn't a big problem. But they didn't say anything about clothes. Might get a bit stinky up there....

According to experts on the boon tube it was a Russian designed and Ukrainian made rocket...

Way to go America...

So either Russia designed it poorly as an F-U to America or Ukraine made it poorly as an F-U to Russia?

;)

But seriously... one disadvantage of private enterprise in this sort of thing... you never know what parts are going to be made where.

Yeah. It's just disappointing that it's not all US made. We used to be the world leader in space exploration and now not so much...

LOL... Lowest bidder is still lowest bidder.

If it's true that we have declined to the point where we need to have Ukrainian made rockets to shoot supplies into orbit we are screwed.

Space X is supposed to launch something in the next month or so. We'll see if that one kabooms as well.

Sad... Go from putting men on the moon using slide rules to not even being able to launch a milk run. Nice leadership there.

Good chance they bought Russian because it costs a quarter of what the US made counterpart costs.

Apparently, NASA is pissed and demanding to know what went wrong. Afterall, their vehicles at least make it to throttle-up before exploding.

Ivan: "Oh, so sorry. So you put throttle at 108% and not at recommended 90%, warranty is void along with all liability to damages."

I'm not an expert in many things - well, not in anything really. But one area I do have the real-deal inside scoop at is a particular rocket producing company.

Action: SpaceX underbidding everyone to achieve name recognition/monopoly of US Private Enterprise Spaceflight

Meet Reaction: Exploding rockets

But, private corporations/parties can always do it better than big government.

I thought the whole Russian angle for using their stuff was that it was cheap, but more importantly it employed people with the knowledge vital to ICBMs off the international market.

That's Sub-orbital Sciences, or even more more so, Sub-Denver Sciences.

Kinda like Caseys gas stations in the late 90's, how I miss .87 cents/gallon...
