View Full Version : Federal LE 132 1B Production Set For December
FYI, this is the e-mail I received from Federal regarding the impossible to find LE 132 1B:
Thank you for your inquiry. The product that you are inquiring about is scheduled for production at the beginning of December; however the production schedule is subject to change. Please feel free to contact us at the beginning of January and we should be able to provide you with some dealers in your area that we have recently shipped to........................

Woot! Thanks for the heads up. I will probably stash some away for a rainy day.

Nice, I have a case stowed back of the LE13200 but will have to scrounge one of these up as well.
Since I don't have any decent gun shops near me I am hoping that one of the mail order places will have them in good quantities.
I finally got some of the 00 buck and can safely say I'll be buying the #1 load when available.
Anyone had any luck finding these things? My searches came up empty.
Check back in a few weeks. Maybe it`ll start showing up at the online stores.
Why do you like it better than 00. I just 250 of the 00.
Might grab some of this as well

I can't say that I like it better because I have not found any to buy yet, but I want to try it. I shot a 3 day class a week ago with my 14" 870P and I am pleased with the patterns with LE 132 00 9 pellet. The ballistic info from the 132 1B indicates sufficient penetrarion and tight patterns with 15 pellets of .30 cal. #1B has been described as the minimum for HD that provides adrquate size and penetration. If the 15 pellet 1B patterns well in my gun, I believe it would be an advantage over 9 pellet 00. Just my opinion.
This thread got me interested in trying some:
https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?87269-New-Federal-Cartridge-shotgun-loads-for-LE
Now to find it. And if I can't, oh well, I can live with the LE 132 00.

3 DAYS of SHOTGUNNING? DAMN!
I can only stand 2 days per year.... and those 2 are for dove season.
3 DAYS of SHOTGUNNING? DAMN!
I am pretty confident in my ability to run this little shotgun in an HD scenario now.

That's sorta close to my SBS. I have the walnut stocks though. I kinda fell in love with the retro/John Wayne/Sheriffs Office look.
I e-mailed Federal again to ask if the production run began this month as scheduled. I will post the answer when I hear from them.
Mine is a PD trade and it was easy to mod the synthetic furniture for a sling and a light without any additional cost.
I chopped the stock and ground down the opening to reinstall the recoil pad, and just drilled a hole to girth hitch the Proctor sling.

It was also easy to grind out the spot for the Magpul rail in the forend.

Another thread with good info on the 1B loading: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?123363-1-Buck-vs-00-Buck
I've never shot it either, but am curious. I rarely shoot my shotty so a couple boxes to pattern and then a few to keep on the gun will last me a long time.

I have a beautiful old 870 Police Magnum with the walnut furniture and blued steel. The thing sat in a Sheriff's office in a closet for about 15 years, and was only fired once.
It runs faster than a 17-year-old boy with a stolen beer.

It is a factory Remington 14" barrel from botach, $139.

Argh. I wonder if they will throw in the six Glock mags they still owe me from eight years ago?
Thanks for the tip on the factory barrel. I'd like to get one with the rifled sights like yours.

waiting for this one to be available also, would like about 500 to keep on hand.

Same here. The 00 shoots the best I've ever seen out of my el cheapo Mossberg 500 riot gun. Totally want to see what the #1 can do...
I received this e-mail from GT Distributors, one of the few who have had a supply of LE 132-1B:
Good morning, We are seriously back ordered on this ammo and do not have a time of arrival.
Of course they are back ordered if Federal is not making any. The link I posted above might be the reason why. Federal: we don't have any demand for it. PDs want 00 Buck.
User: I don't have any place to buy it.

If the patterns in the article are really that tight with the FC wad I wouldn't use them for home defense. You would be better off using a rifle and having the advantage of a 30 round magazine. I'll swing the other way... I would like to see a 00 spreader load.
What's so awesome about this stuff? My HD gauge is loaded with Remington 00 reduced recoil LE rounds.

It's more effective than 00. Check out the links posted in this thread from the last few days.
Whether 00 or 1 shot, what makes this great is the federal LE shoots a super tight pattern.
It's also the cross section mentioned in the link a DWood posted on the previous page. Having fifteen #1 buck gets you .964 square inches compared to .77 for nine pellets of 00B. Twenty percent more wounding capability.

Take the #1 out to 25 yards and let me know how it does. His study is based on all of the #1 weight NOT a couple or three of them. A lot of simple math is ignored. Compare the retained energy of a single #1 to a single OO pellet. #1 will loose every time at any given distance. I'll say it again... Tight groups at close range defeats the purpose of using a shotgun for home defense.

What advantage is a tight pattern for a home defense round? What advantage would a tight load of round pellets do better than say a... 1oz slug?

This is a thread about those interested in the Federal LE #1B, not whether 00 Buck or a rifle round is a better choice.

I do not want to argue but it seems like this thread is about a shotgun round that makes one hole groups at 6-20 yards. Can we assume you don't have a rifle?

We can actually assume that this thread is about the availability of a specific shotgun round.
If anybody wants to run off into the weeds about something else, please go create your own thread.
I still haven't heard from Federal about production starting on scheduled for the ammo. Hopefully they will get back to me tomorrow.
Here is some more interesting info on #1 Buck, but make sure and put your scientist hat on before reading:
http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Federal's+new+tactical+load+is+No.1%3A+more+than+15+years+ago,+Cotey...-a0313519972
What's the difference between this
http://www.targetsportsusa.com/federal-le-tactical-ammo-12-gauge-2-34-00-buckshot 9-pellets-le13200-p-3082.aspx
and the 1B ? is this worth buying a couple cases? I'm new to the shotgun HD loads but wanting to invest in some, I usually have a pistol handy at all times.
#00 buck vs #1 buck. Both have the Flitecontrol wad so both will pattern really tight, but the #1 has more surface area and will create a more effective wound pattern while still penetrating enough.

Not a word. I will try e-mailing again.
I've had an order placed for this stuff over 2 years ago...still waiting.

What the .... ?
Another thing I like about this 1B loading, in addition to the cross sectional density, is that it has cycled well in the few semiauto shotguns I've tried it with.
Anybody seen this out there yet?
They never replied to my e-mail.
Yeah, so I'm guessing this isn't happening anytime soon...

LE132 1B is the reduced recoil version, is there a full-power version like LE12700?

I emailed Federal last years with that question. The response was that there were no plans to produce it at that time.
My order from Streicher's shipped today. It's only been on backorder since January 2013.....
well at least you are getting it.
thats even longer than my cci 22lr order took

Interesting. Their site now says back ordered and shipping in 2 to 4 weeks. Hope that's right.

It is their standard caveat and doesn't say the ammo will ship in 2 to 4 weeks, it says most backordered items ship within 2 to 4 weeks.

Thanks! I called Streichers and they told me the ammo they shipped out recently was not enough to even cover old back orders. I canceled with them and ordered from TDS. The shipping was painful - so was paying $6 a box, when Streichers charges $4... but this stuff is so hard to find I'll stock up now and hopefully be good.

Glad I could help! I definitely understand. This stuff has been pretty much nonexistent since I managed to snag a measly 50 rounds in July 2012, so if you really want it, it's probably worth paying a little extra for it.
I really hope they ramp up production, and get this stuff out there in decent quantities soon.
it looks like it's sold out now.

They're sporadically adding it, I purchased 1 case after seeing your post, 3 listed before, 3 listed after my purchase and now 6 are listed. I'd still jump on it though considering how little of this stuff and infrequently it is available.
Jumped on the ammo at SG Ammo - need to pattern it now!
Ammo received less than 3 days after I ordered it. I've seen it available at a few other places too.

It's out of stock now. As much as I want to try it, I don't know if I would pay $219.50 when they are selling the LE 132 00 for $159.50. Even with $16 for shipping that is a lot cheaper than anyplace I have seen even the places with free shipping.
Let us know how it patterns.

15 .30 cal pellets that penetrates 16-18" in ballistic gel and keeps a tight pattern out to 40 yards with low recoil seems about ideal for a 12 gauge load. I bought a case and previously had (still have a bunch) Critical Defense OO but out of a pump the 132 1B looks like it blows the CD out of the water.... Of course a shotgun is the last weapon I'd pick up for defensive purposes, but still nice to have some laying around.
I just ordered some. I have been using Winchester Super X #1. Pretty stout at 1300s. I do like the idea of 15-16 .30 caliber pellets hitting my target as opposed to 8-9 .33 caliber ones.

I bought a case of LE 132 #1 buckshot a few years ago and I have shot 50 rounds. I tested 5 rounds at 7 yards and it was like shooting slugs since the pellets did not open up. Here is the silhouette I used:

I left my phone at home so I the took the target home and the took the picture.

Wow, that's $1.50 a round.
Streicher's had it for $4/5 or $.80 each... Ended up with a few boxes from them due to a forgotten back order.
When I get the chance I'll pattern it with a Vang Comp'd 870, standard 870 and a Benelli M1.

Any feedback on cycling in Benelli M4's? Mine will cycle 1oz 3.25 Dram Eq #6 Federal game loads but chokes on Winchester 1 1/8oz 3.25 Dram Eq #4 loads. What is the Dram Eq of these "low-recoil" shells?
The velocity of LE132 #1 buckshot is only 1100 FPS. I am not sure how to calculate DRAM since the term was used for black powder. I know some shot shells list the dram equivalent but Federal does not on their box.

Patterned a few rounds this afternoon. Used a Vang Comp'd Wilson 870 and a police trade in 870 Wingmaster with cylinder choke. The trade in 870 patterned better. Only shot at 25/20/15.

AFIAK, these are designed to shoot from a cyl/ imp choke for best results. Not familiar with the Vang Comp, but if it interferes with the Flite Control wad that will affect the pattern according to the literature.
I went to the range today and tried the LE132 #1 buckshot again. I have not shot any for more than 3 years. I tried at 40 feet instead of 21 feet. I shot 5 rounds and last shot went a bit high. Even at 40 feet there was not a lot of pattern.
The shotgun is an 18.5" Mossberg 590A1 with a S&J Hardware +2 extension. Added a LimbSaver recoil pad, a buttstock side saddle, and a TLR-1s light. Has a simple bead sight.

I have heard the Vang work does adversely impact the Flite Control shells. This proves it to me...

SGAmmo has the 13200 in stock at a pretty good price I think. I just bought a case of that and a 50 round pack of Winchester Ranger slugs since I only have buck and bird at the moment. 12 gauge is the first ammo stash I've hit my minimum requirement for so I'm happy about that now. I'll just have to buy more in case I actually want to shoot...
