For my 308 build. Is it just me or did they botch it?

Does not appear to be a good stake job. Manufacturer?

Take 2 minutes and do it yourself.

How would you do it? I'm new to this and am trying to learn. Thanks.

Looks like CMMG. I would chuck those screws, but that's me.

Aero precision complete 308 BCG. Surprises me as I have not read negative reviews on them. The bolt and the rest look well put together

Looks like another reason for the haters to hate to me. If the material on the key is contacting the bolts it won't go anywhere. If you think the punch will impact the bolts you are dreaming.

If you're worried, mark them with paint and check for rotation after running it for a while. They sure don't look very pretty, but looks like good enough material flow to do the job.

Take a wild guess how many carrier keys I have seen that looked staked and were contacting the Taiwanese screws that still came loose?

Wow, I'm lost in this dialect already, however I wouldn't trust that staked BCG if it were me.

In my opinion...botched.

First of all, all you are doing when you stake a fastener is move metal against the fastener to keep it from working loose. You could use a chisel or a punch to move some more material - here is a thread on the subject - https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?6993-bolt-carrier-staking-%28comparison%29

Iraggunz mentioned that he would replace the screws, so you might want to think about that. The bolt carrier key screws are supposed to be one time use - torque them once then discard.

Send it back to Aero / get one properly staked.

I wouldn't mess with that stake at all.... looks like a decent amount of lock on the fasteners.

But to add onto Gunz's point... I did have a key that looked fine, but still came loose.

I think IG is questioning the quality of the actual fastener. When I saw the picture my first thought also was that they used a lesser quality fastener and I wasn't so much thinking about the staking as I was questioning the quality of the fastener.

Looks like the halfassed job on my CMMG mk3.

No bueno.

I ran it and it came loose after 1000 rounds.

My Aero bolt carrier looks nothing like that. It's staked deep into the screws like DD and BCM.

It ain't deep into the screws no matter what you think! Show me a grade 8 grade cap screw with a dent in it.

I would send it back if possible. Better safe than sorry.

Oh, I agree, but I prefer if there's metal pushed into and over the screws.

Haven't had one of those staking jobs come loose, yet.

When it's just bulged like that, I've had two come loose.

In Iraqgunz class I watched him easily unscrew several gas keys that looked like that with a screw driver.
