View Full Version : Apex Tactical DCAEK-Something Wicked This Way Comes...

Its often times very hard to describe trigger characteristics in text so i figured a video was in order.

Its been a while since ive futzed around with M&P's but recently, a buddy asked me to install a DCAEK in his gun. I went ahead and did the install in about 10 minutes (i love drop in parts) and was very impressed with the end result just as i was several years ago when i was shooting M&P's exclusively.

The gun in the video is NOT equipped with the newer Slide stop or trigger bar so i expect the trigger to be even better after i get those parts in and install them.

Things to note:

1. The trigger is CRISP. VERY crisp with a definitive wall and a very short, snapping break.
2. The reset is short...REALLY short, way shorter than any Glock. In fact, the reset distance rivals some of my DA/SA guns.
3. For a drop in trigger kit, the price is right at under 100 bucks. The fact that you can customize the trigger by adding or subtracting a myriad of springs to get your desired pull weight is even cooler.
4. The kits are reliable. On my older gen M&P's with the DCAEK's in them, i have over 100k rounds through them without any issues. No dead triggers, no broken parts and no concerns.
5. The newer generation M&P's have MUCH improved triggers but the DCAEK's allow you to customize your break AND pre travel in any manner you desire. If you want a lighter pre travel, install their competition spring. If you want a heavier break, install a heavier sear plunger spring. I LOVE being able to tune the trigger to give me exactly what i desire.

Now, having said this...something is coming, tomorrow. Stay tuned. If you watch the video, there is a small teaser towards the end.

Interesting that your reset is so short, that's the one thing I wish I could improve about mine. The DCAEK and aluminum trigger definitely helped, but my Glock 19's is definitely shorter.

Wake,

Did you adjust your trigger bar loop? The trigger bar loop partly determines your reset distance. You will have to play around with it a bit but beware, you CAN end up with a pistol that will not reset.

Honestly I have no idea - a gunsmith installed the parts. Its one of the Taj Mahal models as Grant called it. I was very surprised by how long it was initially, its definitely down to something manageable now but after shooting my Glock and CRG for so long the length of this reset is taking some getting used to.

I recently installed a FSS in a new 2014 production M&P. I've been amazed at the difference that the new trigger bar and slide stop have made in the reset. It's strong with a defined "click". Very happy with it.

How do you go about getting the revised trigger bar and slide stop? Smith and Wesson direct or is there a stocking dealer?

Im in the same boat as im not 100% sure.

I would call Smith and ask for part numbers. I would specifically ask if the part numbers deviate from the old part numbers. If they DONT then you're going to have to call say Brownells and ask them if they have the new generation parts prior to ordering.

I purchased my 9l used, from gndr mtn in 2011. It was made in 2010. The reset on this gun is really short, very audible and the break is really crisp. Since its used I'm not sure if any of the trigger parts were upgraded. It was my first m&p and I've never felt an apex trigger so I wouldn't know what to look for. Maybe i just lucky with with good stock trigger?

Stock triggers flat out suck imo on the M&P. I'd be surprised if it was stock. Apex makes the gun imo. Smith and Wesson should be grateful...

I almost bought a 9c for the wife but the trigger was gritty and the reset could not be felt what so ever. It didn't feel like my 9l at all

I have .45's. Above trigger bar I guess isn't applicable to me. It doesn't specify however on the slide stop.......

I love my DCAEK and my polymer AEK trigger, my m&p shoots exactly like I want it to, nice smooth break, no over travel, and great feeling trigger reset. I couldn't be happier, I've had it for about a year now on my m&p

Magz. When's the product available. It's not on their website yet. I'm assuming it will be compatible with all M&P's like their current offerings. Edit. Never mind just saw the other thread.
