Well it looks as if Springfield has given the standard XD's a facelift. They have exchanged the previous disassembly lever and slide release with the ones that are on the XDM models. They have cut down the slide and frame to make a more narrow package from the chunk it was before. What's impressive is they tout an overall width including the disassembly lever of just 1.19" only .01" wider than Glock. Pics make it look like a pretty thin package overall.

It is nice to see that they have kept up with what consumers are doing by offering factory stippling as well as trying to address the high bore axis by allowing for higher hand placement.

Personally, while not an XD owner, I would have liked to have seen the grip safety completely removed. I assume these changes will make their way to the standard sized XD's. Most changes in the Mod 2 appear to be simply cosmetic. Some may see this as great improvements while others may see it as simply putting lipstick on a pig...its still a pig.

YMMV.

BTW, I know XD's don't get a lot of love here but some are fans.

I am a XD fan always have been, ive never had a XD jam or have any sort of malfunction with any of them with many rounds down range . That's some thing I can't say about my glocks or M&Ps

I've never owned a XDM...or a XDS.

But I don't understand stand this move and can't see myself buying one, it all for looks and did nothing to make actually changes that will benefit the XD line.

Of this XD I am not a fan.

That Grip Zone logo is the tackiest thing I've seen in a long time.

First thing I thought as well, but then again I'm not an XD fan to begin with, oh well.

I own 2 xds. An xd9 with over 3k through it. Accuracy is incredible and reliable.

Xdm45. Accuracy isn't nearly as good as the 9. I'm thinking that's a tolerance stacking thing. I thought I would like the short grip/long grip thing, but in reality it doesn't work aswell as in theory. The short grip is identical in grip height as my glock 19. Except on the glock I can fit all 3 fingers, where on the xd I can only fit 2. Of course your results may vary, but me being a fan of 9mm I carry the glock 19 over the xdm.

My experience is the complete opposite. You couldn't give me an XD for free.
