View Full Version : looking for a rifle case
saw the thread on the 2 rifle cases, so i did search...
i'm looking for a case that i can tote my rifle back and forth to work in. we're authorized to carry for patrol, however theres no way to store my rifle at work, and i'm not leaving it in the trunk of a shared car.
i'd like something "discrete" because most of my neighbors dont know that i'm a cop, and i'd like to keep it that way. the less people know what i have, the better.
i'd like to keep it under around 80 bucks or so. i found 2 so far, but i'm not sure if they fit my needs.

anyone got any suggestions?
thanks
The Recce Gear MM4 bag would be a great solution for you if it didn't take over a year for the guy to get around to making you one.

Discrete cases is something that is discussed alot, especially if you live in an anti-gun state.
Personally I've used the following:
26" toolbox with the AR broken down into upper/lower components.
Tennis Raquet Case (can hold a 14.5"+Phantom with telestock collapsed).
Soft Guitar Case.
I usually use the tool-box when I'm traveling as it's lockable and I can stow other gear in there with no issues.
The guitar & tennis raquet cases are use most often for going to the range
I know other guys that have used hard golf club cases, baseball duffel bags, and those 'bags' that the folding canvas chairs go into.
I hope this helps.
If you really want to go discreet, just keep your eye out for a duffel bag of the size needed for your rifle. If you don't mind breaking down the upper and lower halves, then you can go even smaller. I've used the toolbox concept and it works pretty well. It doesn't say "look at my gun", but it does say "look at the tools I carry to work everyday". Tools get stolen all the time. Just something to keep in mind.
I have a TAC-Force 36" discreet case. For the price, the quality is very good.
I am able to carry six AR magazines, 9mm pistol, pistol mags, binoculars, cleaning kit, extra ammo and of course my 16" RRA with a Magpul 93B extended to my set position.
They come in black and O.D. Some other dealers have tan and new digital patterns.
I bought mine from this vendor. May check to see if they offer LEO discounts.

I have the Maxpedition Sliver and it fits my needs .
Find an old guitar gig bag or hard case that has Gibson or Fender or something written on it which fits your rifle. OR dress your rifle bag/case up with stickers and tape to look like a guitar bag. My neighbor must think I'm freakin' Eric Clapton with all the "lessons" I take. :D
