Hey Guys,

Anyone have a sage solution for the front, fiber optic sight getting covered in carbon while shooting reloads with my M&P45, fullsize? Any advise, would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you all in advance.

What powder are you using? Maybe try something that burns a little cleaner.

You might try a light coat of chap stick or frog lube on the FO tube. That will catch the carbon and wipe off at your next cleaning.

Currently using Unique for powder.

I was shooting with a buddy not too long ago & his loads were using Unique & Bullseye. One was a lot "smokier" than the other but I'm not sure which was which. I don't use either. I think he was also using lead projos which might make a difference.
If you have a different powder laying around, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Otherwise, try a range session with commercial ammo to see if the issue goes away.
Did you first notice with this problem when using these reloads or when you first shot with the FO sight?

This is not an uncommon issue... in classes with the late Louis Awerbuck, he'd often point this out as one of the drawbacks to most FO front sights. His solution was simply to wipe it off a bit between strings of fire as the sight became dirty/dimmed. The chapstick trick works great on the lens of weapon mounted lights... might help a bit with FO as well, but maybe not quite as convenient.

As for the specifics of your reloads... I don't know enough to comment. :) Good luck!

For a cleaner burning powder try WST, it's great in .45 and .40. Chapstick and FL paste are pretty good idea.
