I currently have a standard Defender 2000 and I would like to sell if for a DI MRP. My question is, are new MRP's shipping with the enhanced BCG or are they only sold separately? Thanks for your time guys.

Sold separately. I have what you want, and I love it! I just SBR'd it to 10.5".

Ok that's what I needed to know. God I love LMT. My older brother has two or three MRP's (both DI and Piston) and they run like a champ. He's on his honeymoon so I couldn't just ask him. Do you think the enhanced BCG is worth the extra money? And what's a good going rate on new MRP's? Thanks for the reply!

Totally worth the money! Especially if you're running, or plan on running suppressed. Used? About $1,700-2,000. But like LMT says, "They don't do sales! It's never happened, never will! Because our weapons aren't like others who do have sales!" LOL

Try LMT themselves, Rainer Arms, and who I brought my 10.5" Barrel from Neher's Guns and tell Travis I sent you. But LMT should certainly have them in stock.

You won't be dissatisfied with your choice. My MRP is still my go to AR. If you can tolerate a used MRP there are several on Gunbroker and the various forums that have been selling at very reasonable prices. You can find the uppers used for between 800-1000. Rainier arms has the uppers in stock new for ~1200.

Well, I'm still in college so used is perfectly fine with me!

I noticed that the LMT store and Rainier list the same price for the upper, so I figured that means LMT doesn't allow them to discount their products.

Not to change the topic too much, but I'm thinking about buying the 16" DI and having it cut down to 14.5" with a pinned muzzle device to keep the mid-length gas system. Has anyone tried this, and is there anything I should be aware of before diving in? I'd like to eventually SBR it down to 10.5", but I'm not in a rush. I've had the LMT lower for about 7 years now, but other priorities have kept it on the back burner. Thanks,

Dave

You talking about a MRP? If so, you can just buy a 14.5 barrel and swap it in instead of having to cut your current barrel

While I know cutting down the barrel is an extra expense, my goal was to get the benefits of the mid-length gas system that comes with the 16" barrel in the slightly shorter pinned 14.5" length. The factory 14.5" barrel comes with the carbine-length gas system, as I understand it.

I'm sure you can get it done for under $200, but have I ever done/heard it being done? No sir. Can it be done, absolutely. Just make sure the gunsmith knows what they're doing. And that the function is still on par as far as the gas ratio for ejection.

Marvin Pitts cut my 16 to 14.5. I have had zero issues with it.

I have a 556 LM8 upper incoming. LMT just recently starting selling LM8 uppers separately.

Have the MWS LM8 and strongly prefer it over the standard railed MRP MWS. I'm sure the same will be the same for the 556 LM8.

This is BuddyHooHaw's old 12" in a thread from '11. I remember seeing it for sale a little while back....it makes me want to do the same to mine.

If it doesn't work here, he's on Arfcom.

How do you like that LM8? I'd love to have one but they're so hard to get....I can't justify the additional cost for a slick sided MRP versus a standard receiver. I think it might be nice if LMT looked into keymod or MLOK too.

If you are planning on buying an LMT you can expect a high quality product but don't expect a diverse selection.

Thanks I appreciate the help...the LM8 is better for me ergonomically, I think that is a word.
Anyway, I was switching from gas to piston and from two barrels 16 & 10.5 to 12...I didn't know about the LM until I was speaking to the sales/tech guys at LMT.

I ordered my off the net thru LMT and had it in a week. They were under and contract for someone or something and were directing most of their efforts towards that, but if you call they can tell you better.

So here's another question, lets say I go with CQP 16 DI and get my tax stamp on that lower, can I just simply swap in a 12" piston system and not change the buffer or spring at all? And yes I know I'd need to change the carrier.

I don't change my springs or buffers. No issues for me.

Yep, the MRP piston barrel/system is direct plug and play. As mentioned, you will need the piston BCG. It's probably a good idea to have a heavier buffer on hand as well (LMT ships their MRP piston rifles, uppers, and "conversion" kits with an H2 buffer).

The 12" piston comes with the buffer as part of the package.
