I'm kicking around the idea of a 300blk upper for a hog rifle and maybe deer gun. Where I'm at its pretty thick so most shots are under 100yrds and I don't want to invest in mags for 6.8. Came across a steal on the 16" AAC upper with the urx slab side upper. I guess it's been discontinued so it's dirt cheap($650 new). I'm wondering if anyone knows why? To me it's a no brained for what I'm doing, but am I overlooking anything?

Slab side is generally frowned upon for the inability to either perform S.P.O.R.T.S or 'silently chamber' a round by quietly/slowly pulling back the charging handle and 'riding it' forward.

Generally? By who? You?

What slab side upper?

The AAC 16" 300blk upper with the Knights urx rail. I ha e it here in front of me with multiple other uppers. Sounds pretty similar to everything else when it's being charged.

I've never heard of a "slab" side upper. Is that one that lacks a forward assist?

Do you have a picture or a link?

A link would help, but if it's cheap just because it's a slick side upper/older model sounds like a hell of a deal. Assuming it's complete with BCG. No FA wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

By people that either perform S.P.O.R.T.S or wish to 'silently' chamber a round.

Personally, I have no issue with slab sided uppers. I do not use them, as thanks to Uncle Sam I still perform S.P.O.R.T.S and would rather have it and not need it than the other way around, but I do not fault anyone for using them.

What the **** are we talking about?

Sorry, I may have labeled it incorrectly. It's just the basic AAC 16" upper with the Knights urx rail.

Ahh. Okay. It's $650 for the following reasons:

1. The majority of folks with 300BLK want it in a short barrel. There is very little velocity gain to be had from going 9" to 16".

2. No one is buying anything gun related right now. Sandy Hook happened - the sheep maxed out their credit cards, and now the gods of wives are angry.

I would buy it right now, but I wont due to point #1.

The 9" and 12.5" are discontinued as well. I could get either of those at that price also. The problem being is that I'm in CA and we can't have sbr's. That's not the price due to stuff not selling, it's been discontinued and I'm wondering if it's due to them revising it because of problems or if it's just that they are changing rails or something like that?

What? Is this local? Who is selling complete AAC 9" uppers with URX rails for $650?

I'm sure they are just revising it.

That's cost from a dealer. A family member works at a ffl and offered me one at his discount. I think they are selling them for like $799

Midway had the 5.56 AAC uppers for $600 recently, and I've seen the 12.5" 300BLK AAC uppers for somewhere around $660. I'd be surprised to see the 9" uppers at those prices though...they seem to be in demand.
