View Full Version : 2014 QC, how does Sig compare to Beretta?

I know Sig struggled there for a while but I've heard their QC has improved since around 2012ish. What is the general consensus on the current quality of the two manufacturers?

I can't speak for Sig, but my 2014 92G is equal in fit and finish to my 1999 M9 and my 2004 96G-SD. Of course, I did remove some plastic parts from my 2004 and 2014 pistols and replace them with metal, but that's just personal preference.

SIG still seems to have some hit or miss. My 2014 P226 stainless came with a chipped muzzle crown that had been finished over, and after the barrel was fixed had to go back to SIG for failures to extract (attributed to a weak extractor spring). Assuming it's fixed (I'm taking it out on Monday to check), it's a great shooter. I'm very happy with my 2014 P229, but it's a Legacy gun which from everything I've seen are designed as LE guns, so maybe there's a little more QC on that side? From what I've seen in the shop some are very rattly and loose, while others are fine. The MK25 seems to be solid, but for other models I would check them out in person if you can as opposed to buying sight unseen.

Can't speak to Beretta, but the SIGS I've bought(5) the past couple of years have been outstanding. My latest, the M11A1, is a really nice, smooth DA/SA. I always examine new SIGS at our LGS every time I go in, and they're looking very good.

I believe that Ken Hackathorn has been cited recently as saying that the only pistols he would trust out of the box at that time (six months ago?) are Berettas.

That's definitely saying something.

I think both are just fine. Own at least one sample of both.

My 2012 p220 has been perfect...just like my 2003 p229. The 220 is just as perfect quality wise as my half and half 229...

I only have a sample of one (a Sig 226). I bought it in the Spring of this year, and have about 4000 rounds through it. I have had an occasional failure to extract, I ordered a spring kit that should be here on Tuesday. Hopefully that solves the problem. Other than that the gun has been very accurate, the fit seemed excellent, and the trigger is smooth.

The 92 series has always been the most reliable handgun period. Their polymer 9mms are supposed to be bomb proof too, but I don't have any experience with one personally. Bill Wilson speaks very hight of them.

A failure to extract is a pretty serious problem. Why are you buying spring kits and not shipping the thing back to Sig?

A couple of reasons.

1-I have never had it happen with factory ammo, just reloads.
2-It has been infrequent enough (6 times) that I am going to replace the extractor spring and test it.
3-I needed a recoil spring anyway, and the kit wasn't much more.

Beretta's reliability is not repeated in their non-92 recent offerings in metal or polymer.
