View Full Version : Glock as a secondary
I don't know about you guys, but I've always been a fan of the good ol' standard Glock 17. I've shot a 17 for about 6 years now in competition in IDPA, so it's what I'm used to...and what I judge every other pistol by.
Anybody else prefer Glocks?
I just bought one recently myself.

I carry a Glock 19 everyday and have run it through numerous classes - you might say that I'm quite attached to it.
Me also.
I think Glocks are fairly popular...
Did a Google search and came up empty. What is this newfangled Glock thing you're talking about?
I work with G17's, I own and carry a G19. One word "RELIABLE".
I'm probably going to by a G26, and 17 when I get back.
Oh oh! There's goes that "G" word I've been seeing time and time again when it comes to pistols. . .:p
I just bought one recently myself.
That's odd I always pictured you as an Olympic guy :D
In all seriousness jdurr, if you hang out here for any length of time you'll realize that most people here have or have had a Glock at some point in time.
Glock 19 is my favorite handgun! Bar none..:D

I don't like Glocks. They shred my hands, come with horrible sights, and the trigger is uglier than Rosie O'Donnell in a thong tongue kissing Whoopie Goldberg in a lace teddy.
....but I still own them and shoot them.

Even though I don't like them very much, the G17 and the G19 are basically the standard by which other handguns are judged.
I just picked up a G17 and I LOVE IT. I pull the trigger and the muzzle just sits there for 17 rounds. I already had a G27 and carried a G22 on duty for several years.
I still love my 1911 but I love my G17 too.
It's like having a hot wife AND a hot girlfriend! :D

My God, man, if ever there was something worthy of a 30-day ban that image has to be it! What were you thinking?
Even more disturbing, why were you thinking it?

True story:
I was out with a buddy and we passed a TV that had "The View" on it and there was Rosie and Whoopie on the same TV screen. I stopped and commented:
"You know dude, that's a lot of ugly to fit on one screen."
"It could be worse." he replied.
"How?"
"They could be half naked and humping each other."
EDIT -- At least I didn't make a "blooming onion" reference.

One's a former service pistol and the other is a flawed design! ;) :D

I have read that post before. It is a great read on the practical side of decision making for both 9mm and the Glock platform.
Question for you ... did I see a post after you wrote about the Glocks saying that you were going to switch platforms (MP9 IIRC) for a year to see how it worked for you?
I was just curious if you made the switch and what your thoughts were so far.

Correct, for 2008 I had planned on running the S&W M&P 9mm for a full year for work, SWAT, competition (IDPA, weekly steel challenge matches, 3 gun, etc), training classes, and any other training / shooting that I did to see how the M&P platform compared to the Glock.
I can't comment on how the M&P's are working for me because I just received the M&P's on the 10th of this month. I recently tore my rotator cuff (strong side). So at this point I'm just waiting to see what the Orthopedic surgeon is going to do (ie. surgery, rehab, etc).

I like Glocks. I own 1911's ,HP's, S&W, Walthers, Kel-Tecs, NAA, Rugers and others. But I like Glocks, I own 10. They fit my hand, they shoot where I point, they function, they are easy to repair, they are ugly, they are plastic but they work for me. I do like S&W m&p's but glocks fit me better.
Buy and shoot what fit you and works for you. I grew up for 40 years with 1911's and HP's. I still love them but I shoot a glock better. Go with what works for you. Try them all and make your pick!

Most days off I carry a Glock 19 in a Milt Sparks Summer Special.
I just picked up a new Glock 19 today. I ordered 10-8 front night sights and black rear, the Vickers extended mag release, and other than that will leave it alone.
