Apparently for the first time in 20 years, more Americans want to protect gun rights than control gun ownership.

Most dramatic shift is among blacks, of whom 54% said that owning a gun will help protect them from crime and criminals, up from 29% in 2012. Women say the same with 51%, up from 40% in 2012.

But 56% of Americans believe that the "gun crime rate" is higher now than in 1993... the rate is 3.3 homicides per 100,000 people in 2010 vice 7 per 100,000 in 1993, when we reached "peak gun violence".

To everyone who figured it out, welcome to enlightenment and the notion of personal responsibility.

While this is good to hear there are still many politicians who think this thinking is flawed and need laws to change opinions

Perhaps they have something more to worry about than what they were sworn to uphold?
I think we are beginning to see a shift, slowly toward the realization that you cannot be 100% safe in this country be being dependant upon LEO's to protect you. I think a lot of folks out there are being informed and educated by what they can find on their computers that isn't available in the Newspaper or the Left leaning television media.
The gradual realization that the middle class has been slowly sold down the river and the current readily available ability to watch it happen in small steps makes people feel unsafe.
If you've been given the public trust in precarious times and decide to use it to line your personal accounts, it's harder than ever to hide that.
I can understand why they fear an armed public that they "serve."
