With the increasing popularity of 10.5" ARs, I thought I would put together some relevant data to assist in the optimization of the platform in this configuration.
I also wanted to start this thread as a clearinghouse of sorts for an active discussion of 10.5" configurations, and pertinent issues regarding said setups. Feel free to discuss what's worked for you, what hasn't, etc.

Thanks for starting this thread! I hope it's ok if I include a 10.3" barrel in this discussion. I recently built an upper utilising a Ballistic Advantage 10.3" Hanson profiled barrel. This thing is very conservatively gassed. I took it to the range with an H2 buffer and a carbine buffer with 5 kinds of ammo to test, here are the results:
Tula would not reliably cycle with even a carbine buffer.
Federal GMM 69gr, Nugent 70gr Barnes, and AE223: would cycle but not lock back on empty with H2, would cycle and lock with carbine.
XM193: would cycle and lock with H2, but would not lock back with a weak hold.
I will go back and test an H1 next week, but for now I left a carbine buffer in it as I think H2 is barely running.
This surprised me as I heard LMTs are conservatively gassed and people run H2s without issue.

I had my 6920 cut down to 10.3 by ADCO. Running a complete buffer tube kit from phase5 with their enhanced buffer spring and carbine buffer. So far it has been reliable with tula, wolf, federal XM193 XM855 55gr 223, and DRT 55gr 223 (HPFB)
I use an H3 and blue Sprinco spring in my pistol with DD Mk18 upper per a recommendation from IraqGunz. Apparently the DD Mk18's are overgassed. Runs fine with IMI M855 (all I've shot through it so far).

Same here. Running an H3 + Blue Sprinco w/M855 and no problems thus far. I. Trying to source some Mk262 to no avail...
I'm wondering where all the 10.5 FSB barrels are... or upper halves. I bought my 10.5 FN fsb barrel at PKfirearms a few years back, but I can't find those anywhere anymore.

Dentron- does the Hanson have a diff. Port size than their regular 10.5s, or is just the profile?
Asking because my BA 10.5 is using an h2 and cycles it without issue

$0.50 is not bad at all. On a side note, before I threw the Blue spring in, I immediately thought of your lifelong hatred for them.

The Aero is the only one that appears to be in stock. Man.. I like that Noveske profile though. Nice meaty beast.

Found this on TOS. Seems OK, but I replaced te BCG with a Sionics just to be safer... Havent had a chance to shoot in yet however. The customer service was quick to answer questions.

My MK18 sports a VLTOR A5 RE and spring with a VLTOR H4 buffer and works wonderfully with PMC Bronze, XM193 and my mid powered hand loads. I will try more ammo, mostly hand loads and edit this at some point. I think this trio of rounds covers the range from Low - Medium - High.

Just heard back from BA, here is their reply regarding gas port size:
" Appreciate the inquiry. The gas port size of 5.56 10.3” Hanson carbine .073 and the 11.5” 5.56 is .076. Please let me know if you have any other questions."
BravoCompanyUSA briefly had the 10.5 LMTs in stock. But they were over $500 with no BCG or CH. There was a thread going about this, but it got locked.
I guess with all the pistol brace popularity, 10.5s are kind of a hot item currently.

Finally got mine to the 25m indoor range to sight in. 60 rounds, no problem, with a Sprinco blue and some unknown weight PSA buffer. I've since replaced with a true H2. A bit more concussion and louder than a 16", but I usually double up ear pro, so not a big deal. Maybe a touch more kick. Need to spend a bit more time zero'ing the red dot, as I was rushing things.
Using the FBI 62gr bonded loading.

I'm running a DD 10.3" barrel SBR with a VLTOR A5 with the A5H2 buffer and a Syrac Ordnance AGB. The rifle has been 100% with ammo from many different manufactures along with my own reloads. Extremely soft shooting both suppressed and unsuppressed.
The 10.3" port size is right on the money.
I don't know why the 11.5" port size is larger than the 10.3"
It can be slightly smaller and maintain the same gas drive due to the longer barrel.
Something seems off with the build not cycling well with the H2 and standard spring.
It may be worthwhile to go back through the build and check for leakage around the gas block, gas tube and gas key.
Verify gas block alignment, gas tube alignment(s) and gas port size on your barrel.
Verify a standard carbine spring and not a rifle or monkey extra power spring.
Try swapping the BCG as well to rule out any issues there.

I honestly have no idea. Our designers are always working on new stuff. I can mention it to them that this has been a requested barrel and see what they say.

Going to run my 10.5 LMT MRP setup tomorrow for the first time. Anyone else running a 10.5 in the MRP format?
I am on a mad mission to get a correctly gassed 10.5 FSB chrome lined barrel. I may have to cut down a carbean barrel and open the port to .071".... but I don't know anyone I trust to do the port work. :(

I just need an FSB barrel, so I settled on the Aeroprecision mentioned previously in this thread. I just hope .077" isn't too much gas for me.
