View Full Version : Which pistol light is everyone using?
Curious to see what everyone is using. I am still using an insight m3 (non led) myself. Although I know light technology has evolved since the M3 was developed, I haven't been able to convice myself to change. I set up this poll out of personal curiosity. I know it personal preference for the most part but after you vote, leave a comment of what you do carry and why you chose this option. You can choose multiple lights if you have more than one.

I've been using the TLR1s for a while - review - http://vdmsr.blogspot.com/2013/11/streamlight-tlr-1s-led-rail-mounted.html
I also have a viridian x5l gen2 which I carried but use on my HD gun now.
Been running an X300 on one glock, as well as an X300U, also keep handhelds around for backup or for nonrailed guns (1911 and Beretta 92.)
That said, nothing wrong with the TLR1s, ran then for a long time. Just prefer the X300 design and controls more.
Streamlight TLR1 on Glock 19 & 17, Streamlight Protac 1L.

TLR-1. If I need a light, I switch it between pistols or ARs, mounting it at 12:00 on the rail if I need it.
I also have a Brownell's light on a VLTOR quick detach, in case I need it.
I started with a TLR-1 because of its price. I still have it but it just kind of started dying so I gave an X300 a shot. All of my weapon lights are SureFires now. I like the profile better and they just feel more solid. Plus I have had awesome experience with their CS.

Surefire X300 on my Sig 226. I like pressing forward on the paddle for momentary as opposed to the streamlight style, but I have friends who use the TLR1-HL and they seem to work very well. My EDC light is a Streamlight Protac 2L. I've used it for over 3 years, and it's still working as good as the day I bought it, and it's been beat up quite a bit.
X300 ultra.
I prefer the switchology Moreso than the TLR stuff.
However,
Should APL come out with a 500 or so lumen pistol light I will heavily consider it given the switch methods.
A stream light stylus pro is my general edc handheld light tho.
X300 ultra.
How did you like it on the M&P?

I use the TRL-HL on my Glock 19.
How did you like it on the M&P?
Loved it, no issues. Probably the best balanced setup I recall ever running, short of a 1911.
X300 or X300 ultra. They are on all my pistols that will take a light.

That is how I ended up with Surefires as well. That said, for a light that can go long gun or handgun, the TLR1 in my opinion is easier to mount.
TLR-X's here as well and they all still work very well.
TLR-1 since its the only one authorized at work. We've had them for about 5 years and the only one that's had an issue was the one that took a sim round to the lense. Because it's the only one allowed, I've never even handled any of the others but I like it enough that I got an HL for my personal rifle.
I use a TLR-1 on my P2000. Originally it had a X300 on. I like the flood of the TLR-1, where as the x300 was a little small for my taste. Plus when I want to summer carry, I can easily take the TLR-1 off run with my Remora holster. The X300 resides on a carbine now. Both are great lights.
Inforce APL went with it due to the natural feel of the activation switch
I have the x300u. The x300 series just felt like it was built a little better to me (subjective) because I was seriously looking at the TLR series. The main reason I went with the x300 was because of the DG Switch. I started off using a handheld.

I'm a big fan of the X300.

So far that seems to be the consensus of the poll. I have been researching the x300 as a possible new pistol light. I know several people who have them and love them

I wasn't sure of mine at first. The attachment system is more difficult than a TLR-1 as is the paddle rotation. After discovering the push for momentary function I much prefer it since I also have had some light NDs out of a TLR-1 on my AR. Again, I've tried offerings from both Inforce and Streamlight, and only really look at SureFires now.

While I consider the X300 series to be a superior light in many ways, as with many things, if you can try both before you buy. That said, If you are looking at an X300U, there are a number of sales going on that would allow you to get one at a very good price.
Most of my handguns have TLR1's. I don't like it on a rifle but it's just fine for a pistol.

This is the other top contender for me. Obviously vs the x300 series it's most attractive feature is its price. That said, I know surefire products to be superb having worked for one of their mfg suppliers and their CS is the best I've ever seen.
I am running a X300U in my duty pistol and my small handheld is a Surefire 6PX.
I know a lot of guys running the TLR-1 and the HL version and seem to be happy with them. You'd be hard-pressed to go wrong with either.
Surefire X300.
Once a X-300 Ultra holster I like becomes available, I might switch to that.
I use an X300 day to day. Recently picked up an X300U and an APL to try out.

I'm almost tempted to do the same with the x300u and the tlr-1 hl if it weren't for the fear of castration by the wife. Lol

I have seen quite a few TLR-1s in use at my shop- I've got two. They seem to be extremely reliable and they are on the lower end of the price spectrum compared to the Surefire WMLs. +1 for Streamlight TLR1s.

Streamlight TLR-1 HL 630 lumens of white light, can't beat them for the price.

Agreed. Had both a surefire and TLR -1 HL.Ended up buying a second TLR-1 HL. The 630 lumens and price are hard to beat. Durability has been fine.
I started out with an M3X, about 10/11 years ago. I had no issues with it. I switched to the TLR-1 about a year ago, due to the higher lumens. I have since switched to the Infoce APL because I like the more (for me) intuitive controls
Inforce APL. Ever since I received my replacement from Inforce, it's been great.

Did you have it replaced because of the mounting system?
Did you have it replaced because of the mounting system?
No. It was draining my batteries very fast when not in use.
Currently TLR-1's on all my pistols and carbines. Lights mounted at 12 o'clock on carbines. For the money I've found them hard to beat.
I've been very happy with TLR-1s.
Have been more than satisfied with the SF.X300 (1st Gen). It simply works for me.
Here's a dated shot of said mating:

I own two TLR-1 HLs and 1 TLR-2. I also own various SF lights, but none of the X300 versions. I have a SF Scout mounted to my AR. I've been happy with performance of both brands. I've found myself branching away from SF in recent years with other manufacturers really stepping up their game, Streamlight to be one. With quality and durability being so close between the two, I believe I get more bang for the $ with Streamlight W/O sacrificing reliability or performance. I have no doubt others will disagree.
Bedside/house gun is currently a G27 with a TRL-1 HL, contour remote switch and CT laser grip. Trusty SF 6Z (upgraded LED head) goes with me as the hand held.

X300, X200A, X200B, M3X, M6X, X2L, depending on what it is on (and nothing gets tossed). I wish that Surefire made the X300 compact to fit HK45C, since the rail is too short for most other options.

TLR-1 on my pistols. I find the switches are much more practical for handgun use than the SF X-series, with the opposite being true for carbine use.
I have a X300U on my duty G21SF, though I may be going to the TLR-1HL as it seems to be easier to activate.
Once Surefire gets their new XC1 out and Raven makes a Phantom holster for it I will have that on my concealed G19.

X300V.
Sold my X300U. The splash back from 500 lumens in foliage is massive.
TLR-1s, 300 lumens. Just sold a TLR-2 and will pick up another TLR-1s or HL and an Inforce WML for my AR.
Ha! Am I crazy to think 500 is a bit much for a pistol? I've been debating picking up a X300U to replace my X300, but can't decide if it's worth it.

It all depends on where you are using this light. For indoors I wouldn't do it personally.
I've been using the X300U indoors for a while and it's fine. I wouldn't want to go back to 170.

I run mine indoors and outside with no issues. I don't think the 500 is too much.

I agree completely with this assessment after owning for the last 6 months or so

I used to think not, I played with it in the house never had a problem with blinding myself....until. I decided to try it in the middle of the night, you know, eye adjusted to dark, a little sleep in your eyes, wow blinding yourself doesn't describe it. Not sure how adrenaline would affect all that.

I have a 300U that I keep on my rifle, but have a holster for the light on my 226 that I use on occasion as well. I have been trying to find a compact light that I could use on something m&p9c sized, and have a couple of the Crimson Trace lights (the railmaster and railmaster pro) which are both 100 lumens. There is a significant difference between the two and even indoors with white walls I prefer the 300U. Looking down the main hallway in the house (about 20 yards or so from one end to the other), the 500 lumens is a (no pun intended) night and day difference. 500 inside has not been a problem for me.
On my KAC SR-15 and FN SLP, I use Surefire X300 Ultra weapon lights. For a rifle and shotgun, the X300 Ultra controls have been preferable to me, the 500 lumen output is great, and they have been 100% reliable. For my Glock 19, I run the Streamlight TLR-1 HL. Because my G19 is my EDC, I often attach and detach the TLR-1 HL based on need, and I find the mounting system to be quicker to deal with. Similar to the X300 Ultra, it has been 100% reliable after heavy use, and the high 630 lumen output is helpful.
All in all, both options have been great thus far.

I use Surefire X300U on my HKs and my Glock. I have recently started using a TLR-1HL that I got at Christmas on my VP9, I am liking it also. The beam and spill on the SF is nicer than the TLR but the TLR is definitely brighter-which is actually a disadvantage because it is blinding when used in a dark room. I also use the X300U on my ARs. I like the actuation of the switches-works well for me on both pistol and the fore end of my carbines.

I have TLR-1 on my G23 and I also pocket carry a Streamlight Protac AA. Very good combo, the protac has been used and abused. I even bring it in with me to work (a county jail) when I know I am doing searches and need a compact reliable light.
TLR1HL. Used regular TLR1 for a long time with no issues. It got moved to my wife's 19 when I bought the HL.
I'm running TLR-1 HLs on all of my railed pistols these days.
