This isn't really tactical but is gear related.

I am looking to pick up some lightweight rain jackets that I could leave in the car, my desk at work, throw in a messenger bag, etc. It would be for if I got caught out in the rain.

What is the best bang for buck with these?

I keep a nice Poncho in the truck and in my deployment bag.

I use both ponchos and a few of these from Columbia. They fold into themselves, a little smaller than a canteen.
Found a bunch of them on sale for the wife and I. Vehicles, boat, 72-hr packs

If you can find them, I've got a Kuhl packable rain jacket.

Packs to about the size of a 20oz soda container.

Second this recommendation. I have their Kollusion jacket as well and recommend that. Good stuff-

Regarding the Kuhl jackets, are you guys talking about their Parachute Jak?

Marmot Precip Jacket make a killer packable jacket and pants. I fold them down super small and vacuum seal them. You can find them cheap on ebay and places like steep and cheap.

I keep a green Marmot precip stashed in my truck, along with old fleece jacket beenie and poncho liner. Wife keeps her Marmot precip and my old Columbia rain jacket, that I paid $40 for at Bass Pro, in the trunk of her car. I bought the Marmots from Sierra Trading for around $100 for both a few years ago.

I have a Mountain Hard Ware Plasmic Jacket in my truck. It has come in handy several times over the last 5 years and it is still going strong. Best part is they come in nice Earth tones.

REI has some Sierra Design jackets/pants that are cheap if you're looking to buy several.

Luke's Ultralight makes a couple of awesome super lightweight, very packable jackets.

+1 for the marmot precip. I roll mine up to fit in its own hood and it will then easily stow in a standard side water bottle pocket of your pack. It has been getting a workout since i recently moved to the pacific northwest.

Another vote for the Marmot Precip. It's pretty much the standard in the backpacking world. And as others have said, lightweight and packs small. I've had mine a few years now. Stays in my everyday bag and goes with me everywhere. You can often find discontinued colors for half off.

I bought a Marmot Precip about 3 years ago and really like it. It is light and can be packed into a very small area. You can regularly find them on sale at http://www.campmor.com for about $60-70.

Based on this thread I bought the latest model Marmot Precip. Very happy with it and thanks to all who recommended it. I keep it in my drivers door pocket. The jacket is made to fold into the left pocket and zip shut.

I bought a couple Frogg Togg suits. Nothing fancy but inexpensive and they do the job. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/frogg-toggs-all-sports-suit?a=941334

Bumping this after a few months, I stumbled across this on Cabelas website and decided to try for $30,

I really like this thing, I've had it for 3 weeks now and while never used in a downpour, It is pretty nice especially for the money. It folds into a 4" x 5" pocket, and is light weight. I put a sweatshirt under it and take the dog into the woods and never think about the 40*-50* temperatures. It runs extremely large though, I normally wear a large shirt, medium every once in a while, I got an XL thinking that I can put a heavy sweat shirt under it. It runs very large, could probably fit a parka underneath and still have room, but its a great rain jacket and windbreaker, again only $30.
