View Full Version : Source for 1.75" EDC belt with Cobra buckle?

Ok, long story short I'm in the market for a new belt. For many years I've predominantly used wilderness tactical belts with the kydex liner and on nicer occasions my beltman leather belts.

My only gripe with the wilderness is the Velcro attachment for the tab. Not really a big deal but I feel like a 2 year old anytime I have to undo it, even more so if I have to use a public restroom. Not exactly discreet IMO. The tab can also be problematic when carrying OWB depending on the situation.

So I think a cobra buckle belt would work better.

Also 1.75" because I loathe 1.5" belts. I hate how they feel when they cinch down.

So any suggestions on sources? The only one I know is HSGI but I'm not sure how stiff it is. The pics suggest its not very stiff but idk.

I have an SOE gear cobra for EDC and its a damn nice gun belt, but damn if it isnt expensive ($73 total after shipping plus I had an 8 week wait).

I then found Volund Gearworks, but theirs were pricey too (I have a 1.75 liner and 2" micro battle belt from them. Awesome gear, but it costs). I noticed however that they also offer a g hook belt (as do server all other companies) and its only $50!

I actually now find myself preferring the g hook over the cobra buckles as the cobra can be bulky (especially when carrying appendix, it pokes out like a Water Dowsing. Lol.). The g hook is more low profile and simple to attach as well as discreet.

The biggest difference I've noticed between the many companies and their offerings is cost and lead times. Workmanship and quality is usually high end and they are all on par with each other. Hope this helps

Go with the Volund Atlas with the G hook.

The Cobra buckle serves no purpose on a EDC. Because guess how you take it on and off.... with the velcro, because the buckle wont fit though pant loops or holster loops.

All the cobra buckle is, is a fashion statement.

The First Spear AGB is worth a look. I've been wearing one daily for 3 years or so. It's plenty rigid for an IWB, two-mag carrier, clinch pick, cell phone pouch, and multi-tool pouch. Like 4DAIVI stated, though, the cobra buckle is its own PITA at times.

This man is correct. The Atlas belt is great, but forget the cobra buckles and get one with the G hook. I know that you said that you don't like the velcro, but I have already been down this road and you will not be disappointed in the Altas belt and G hook setup for EDC. Cobra buckles are a PITA.

How is the Volund Atlas with a G hook with adjustments? The sizing gives a pretty good range for each stated size, but I'm curious how adjustable it is. I can't tell from the photos on the web site, but it almost looks like the belt can only be adjusted in larger increments and would be difficult to fine tune.

I've been wearing cobra belts and am looking for something with a lower profile.

Thanks!

You can fine tune the atlas with ease.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Made my decision harder as I completely forgot about volunds offerings ( I'm digging the micro belt). The SOE stuff looks nice but 6 weeks plus is a no go.

I'll probably pick up a g hook belt to have but regarding the atlas belts with the cobra buckle since they use smaller one inch buckle are they still that problematic with regards to how thick they are? I'm not expecting it to fit through holster loops but more so how the ergos are when carrying AIWB.

The AGB looks like a good offering as well. I may have to grab one of those for work.

Just to add, I've recently bought 2 SOE belts in the past month or so. I bought both with a 20% off coupon that should still be working right now (no sale gifts included with them).

The first one was the low profile EDC belt with G-hook buckle, and that took aprox 2 weeks from the time I placed my order until I received it (and that was with Christmas and New Years in between there), so maybe 7-8 business days total.

The 2nd belt was the cobra EDC belt, and that took just over 2 weeks. The main lag, from what I've seen (read on their FB page and watched on their youtube vids) is that they often wait on the cobra buckles to show up, but recently just got a huge batch of them in.

From what I've seen lately, belts are taking right around 2 weeks to show up to you from the time you placed the order - granted that you didn't place the order during a sale where they're waiting on the "gift cocks" to be made, and you're not asking for a material that isn't in high production, like the cash print material.

I agree here. I have both a jones and a Volund belt and much prefer the Volund.

I like my cobra buckle belts. But for EDC, they suck. I don't particularly like the Volund G-hook belt, but it's not a bad belt by any stretch of the imagination.

My EDC is an Ares Aegis. I would look into them, if you haven't. It's not necessarily a belt I'd look at using as, say, a warbelt - neither would I use the Volund G-hook in such a role. But as a belt to wear all day, everyday? It's my go-to. It also doesn't look tactical at all, so you can wear it with a tucked in shirt and not be That Guy... you can even get away with wearing one with a sport coat.

Only issue, of course, if that they only make the Aegis in 1-1/2", not in 1-3/4".

ETA: I also have a Volund 1-3/4" Cobra buckle belt. Not a bad belt by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think it's as well thought out as the 1-1/2" Ares Ranger that I've had for years. I haven't used it with any holsters except a Safariland UBL. It's not that bad to deal with. No worse than the Ares Ranger or the Volund G-hook. Not quite as nice as the Aegis, but that's because the Aegis is basically webbing with a buckle... not webbing with a skinnier piece of webbing and a buckle around the outside.

Simple to fine tune as it has 4 points to hook the G-Hook, pick the one that's closest to where you want, then cinch it down. I wear one daily and love it.

Quick update but volund got their black cobra buckles back in stock so I decided to order one of their 1.75" offerings. A g hook version will be next on my list if warranted.

Thanks for everyone's input.
