Tested some different ammo through my PSA Mid length 16" CHF 1 in 7" twist to see what would best fit my needs for mid range coyote/groundhog hunting. Here is what I came up with:
Note this was from prone with bags and using a 1-4x scope from 100yards shooting two separate 3 shot groups.

American Eagle tipped varmint 50gr:
0.98"
1.03"

PPU 55gr soft tip:
1.8"
2.24"

PPU 69gr match
1.6"
1.74"

PPU 75gr match
1.3"
1.13"

I was very surprised with the results if my testing and I know these aren't the greatest results but getting MOA groups with some ammo I bought at walmart for 10$ for 20 using a 600$ AR I'm very happen.

I did notice a difference in recoil and noise shooting the 75gr vs 50gr, also surprised that my 1 in 7" shot the 50gr so well.

Thoughts, recommendations, advise, and criticism welcomed.

PPU Match is decent ammunition, but not known for stellar accuracy. Federal 68g Gold Medal Match would be a good round to use for comparison. The issue of bullet weight in a 1:7 barrel has been discussed at great length. In my humble opinion the quality of the bullet is more important than weight.

It looks like the AE 50g varmint round will fit your needs. Although, a coyote won't notice if you kill him with a 1 MOA round or a 2-1/4 MOA round.

Happy hunting.

Not uncommon to find that a 1/7 shoots 50-55 gr well. And the fact that you ran it up against all PPU bullets really helps it shine. Like T2C said. PRVI is reliable ammo, but average in the accuracy department.

The reason for the prvi was due to the fact I was looking to stay under 15$ for a box of 20.

Personally, I think a 2 MOA carbine/ammunition combination is pretty darn good for most applications.

So I guess I should be happy with the 1 MOA setup. Will show it's use when getting up to. 2-300 yards on groundhogs.

It certainly suits my needs! But I'm not a competitive shooter. At least not today. ;)

My 14.5" Noveske mid-length 1 in 7 shoots M193 lights out. The previous 16" chrome-lined barrel shot that ammo very consistently as well.

As for the Prvi, I have been loading some 69gr that I've talked about in some other threads, and it shoots ok out my SS 16" Noveske, but it isn't what I would consider uber-accurate. It shoots as accurate as the price of the bullets, I would say. I ended up taking my medium load (23.6gr 8208XBR) and just loaded out of the Prvi bullets I had left. I still have them loaded, but have since switched to Nosler for my accuracy loads (still working up ladder loads).

That 50 gr AE round has produced the best groups so far out of my rifle as well. Can't beat it for the price as a shorter range high precision round.

Both my 1/7 BCMs are pretty consistent across the board with everything I have tried from 55gr-75gr. That said, both show preference for certain loads, generally the higher quality loads, Hornady bullets seem to make them happy and that is fine by me.

Now that said, OP, I do see a couple holes in testing you did. The first thing that I would consider doing is extend the number of rounds in the groups up to five. Doing that will give you a better idea of what the rifle/ammo combo is capable of as most see 3 rounds as not being a good test for the rifle's accuracy.

Next thing, if you are looking for relatively cheap match-ish grade ammo, check out the Hornady Steel match. Having shot the 55gr and 75gr stuff I have been impressive in what it will do at about $20 or less a box of 50. I think there might be even a 50gr option there as well. Not brass cased, but if you aren't reloading then I wouldn't be concerned.

50 grain black hills enhanced TSX shoot spectacularly from my 1-7 FN and DD barrels. Like less than 1" at 100. Stumbled on it and was very surprised to see.
