I checked out the Colt booth but did not find anything new to take pictures of......then I saw the Colt Canada section.

This is a technology demonstrator. this platform consist of the weapon with its associated electronics, remote command unit, and communication to various battle asset.

SWORD(Sniper Weapon Observer Recon device), Smal Arms Fire Control System utilized a patented Small arms network power data system to control the battel field intel and operation. for example, a Sniper in the field, the command can identify the high value target, confirm the target identity and assign the shooter a shoot or no shoot command. command can also assign various targets for infantry to engage via direct rifle fire or unseen target via rifle mounted grenade. This system gives a real tiem hand off from the observer to the shooter.

* all components on the system are only for technology demo purpose, it is not the actual end product.

Unseen targets can be send to operator via command and control(intel possibly gather by drone over the battle field) and the observor can remotely designated the target location and the location can be viewed via the smart phone/digital screen on the weapon. the operator just have to follow the guide in the screen and elevate the weapon to a pre designated angle and let off the grenade to hit the unseen target.

Oh... they --are-- actual tourniquets.... I can see the webbing now... and apparently Raven has made a holder for them?

So it looks like tourniquet in little nylon holder, then a larger carrier that also holds scissors on side and then a mount that the holder mounts on along with BOK.

What booth were they giving away the bags in the last pic and is it to late?

LOL.

There's some exciting stuff coming out. After every SHOT, I can hear my credit card begging for mercy.

It's weird, but good, to see piston AR makers getting into the DI game. Even LWRC is making complete DI guns, who'd have thunk it?

Raven Concealment made one for Steve Fisher, so I imagine that if/when this comes on the market they will be making them available in some fashion - even just custom.

Lots of folks overlooked the new keymod handstop that PWS is releasing. They had some proof of concepts at the show and are still refining the design. I was fortunate to go home with one and love the design.

Nice to see the lower cost Troy BUIS, the smaller size, the new reticles, and features and lower cost make them very attractive.

Lasers continue making inroads into the firearms market. I think for smaller handguns they are especially valuable, as the iron sights are frequently abysmal. And prices are really dropping, in some cases about even with the cost of a good holster.

However, please do not use a laser sight mounted on a handgun as a pointer during a presentation as the NY State Director of Homeland Security did.

Ive spoken with a couple of dealers that have 7.62 CQB cans in form 3 process between kac and them. In other words waiting for ATF approval to ship. I spoke with one dealer that is in the same spot with the full size 7.62 QDC. However, I'm not aware of any 556 kac Suppressors in the form 3 process but I'm not looking for em so they maybe in route.
That said, I suspect most if not all of the kac QDC Suppressors in the form 3 process are already spoken for. I know I ordered mine a while ago.

How long are these taking on form 3's? My local dealer can get them (form 3) approved by eform in a few weeks.

They seem to be about 3 months without efile. The local dealer has tried efile but apparently hasn't been able to do it. I'm getting ready to go in and walk him thru the process.

My first thought was the "cylinder gap gas" would be a bitch on the side of your face, but I think that's what the video was addressing.

But, in this configuration are you using the rotating cylinder as a cheek weld?

Maybe I am just not visualizing it correctly.

Wow am I the only one who is questioning the practicality of this new shot gun. I am not a fan of any under barrel shoty. I bet that thing makes your weapon so unwieldy. Does anyone remember the xm26 and what a disaster that was (not to say this will be like the xm26). I think they are creating a solution for a problem that is a minor issue at best.

With proper TNG, TTP's and SOP's there is no problem running a secondary breaching shotgun. We always ran TL's as breachers as we did not want the TL being number one through the door anyway. Ill keep my nimble breaching 870 and crye can keep this. Does anyone know how much it weighs in both configs? ballistic breaching really not an issue in T1 units as every shooter is equally capable of breaching and going through the door first (unless the shooter is equipped with a open bolt or sniper weapon). So I wonder who was the driving force behind the development of this weapon.

Agreed on points above.

I'm not from Regiment, but even the handful of times I've ballistic breached, we had the shotgun on the TLs back and the breacher took it off and did his thing. Couldn't imagine running an underbarrel shotgun or a standalone of that size.

Calab Crye drove the idea, but overall weigth was sufficantly lighter than the older XM26. how it would operate under condition would be beyond my civilian capability...

It's too bad you can't use the new 7.62 cans with 5.56 muzzle devices. I'd be willing to give that up if I currently had a 5.56 suppressor or if I was going to run it full time on my 300blk.

The more I look at it, the more I'm considering the 8.5" URX 4 for my 300blk.

On bulpup I see several similarities to bulpup version of Polish MSBS. Looks like our designers here in Poland are going right way.

Polish designers will make sure it lasts several lifetimes before they send it to the craftsmen at Radom to build it with a level of fit and finish equivalent to a fine hunting rifle.

I love the way the Polish gun builders think about their craftsmanship and consider everything they make part of an enduring legacy that will outlive them.

I think it must be genetic because Noveske is the Germanicised version of Novitsky(Polish surname) and John's legacy is evident in every rifle he built.

Back to Desert Tech: I have high hopes for the accuracy of a 308 version of their bullpup as the most compact top tier DMR ever brought to market.

There are so many options on the market that we don't want to be wedded to any single one, so we put on a simple, inexpensive, readily replaced option. The A2 grip is kinda like sights on a Glock.
Imagine it as a sign that says "grip goes here".

Wouldn't it be useful in a less lethal role?

It is rather result of MSBS being joint effort with Polish Military Technical Academy do design new military issue rifle. It takes significant less time to bring to market commercial grade products or prototypes of such, than go trough all that is needed for military adoption process for standard issue rifles (with all red tape involved). Especially when requirements for reliability and durability are legacy of Warsaw Pact standards. I expect MSBS bulpup to become anything more than videogame curio not earlier than 2017.

BTW As commercial grade products, I mean in-house designed products, that only designer/manufacturer defines requirements and features for them. It does not mean inferior products, only that commercial company makes it on their own will, risk and money as COTS product.

We ran us SAW gunners as the breachers. Was dumb dumb dumb. Already carrying 600rds of 5.56, SAW, M9, and pyro....oh lets give him the shotgun too.

I don't see why an easy CNC adaptor with appropriate tolerance couldn't be used to mount the 7.62 3/4" can mount to a 5.56 1/2" thread barrel, except that it could be louder, it wouldn't take long to program the operation, with a given that the muzzle threads and shoulder are true "enough".

This is around time, when HK came out with G28 in RAL8000. As a curio, RAL8000 is same colour that Rommel's Afrika Korps used back in WW2.

I think it looks like Dunklegelb RAL 7028, which was the standard Wehrmacht color from 1943 onwards. Very close to SOCOM Dark Earth, too. Very sensible, correct tactical colors.

There is a replacement backplate that accompanies the mount. If you are comfortable with the disassembly process to remove the backplate, that and drifting the old sights out, and the mount in is all there is to do. No machininig or milling involved.

Yes. They will be sending out at least one more shipment of 14.5" uppers and complete 14.5" SBR carbines. I've got an upper reserved at my usual KAC place. In addition, I spoke with a LGS and he's got 3 complete carbines coming in but $2750 which is msrp.

I was referring to the KAC carbines 14.5" with dimpled barrels (technically not mod 1) that will still be shipped this year. Correct, mod 2 (to the extent 14.5" are called mod2) will not have dimpled barrels. Don't know if those rifles will be out this year even if KAC plans to have them out. I suspect KAC will get the mod 2s (16") out but I'm not holding my breath on a non-dimpled 14.5" (nor am I interested in one).

It is "available" through Bushmaster. Its commercial branding says Bushmaster. I am fully aware of the company affiliations. The point was nothing has come to the marketplace other than the basic ACR and a folding stock & metal handguard for the basic ACR. It is a commercial clusterf**k and they still have no customers on the LE/Mil side. SHOT show prototypes are not production; they are a tease.

Be advised, I say this as a guy who only buys Remington Hunting firearms. Love the company but their "priorities" are not providing the ACR platform discussed in the last 5 SHOT shows. My guess is, they never will.

A Link for your reference. Same page for the last 3 years....

http://www.bushmaster.com/acr/#/intro

Certainly doesn't look based upon based upon the very limited support from Bushy, and Remington innovations not trickling down.

I had super high hopes for the ACR, but my mind and money have moved on to other things at this point.

How does one install a Mod2 gas system with a URX4? I'm imagining a long tube the diameter of the mini "castle nut" that slides over the barrel but under the URX4 and has wrench flats higher up to torque it down properly.

It'd be even more high-speed if it was magnetized to ease the installation of the mini castle nut.

Requested by a tier one unit, they found a solid mount for red dot is a much faster solution to acquire a target and it is also much more reliable solution then a slide mounted solution. like Tactical weaponry Jedi Master Ken Hackathorn stated over and over again, red dot mounted on a pistol slide is the future, it is just not right now. the 6 second mount solves this issue and at the same time brings about a menacing look to your every day Glock

I've always wondered if Gene Stoner's inspiration for the AR10 gas system (the tube section) came from his background in aviation maintenance.

This Mod 2 deals with the gas tube, or line, in a similar way that aviation line fittings are used to seal them at junctions. Looks like a natural evolution of the system that should have taken place in the early 1960's.

KAC has more institutional knowledge about the AR10 and AR15 than probably anyone else, especially when you look at the tool room samples and early Stoner guns in the collection/museum.

I just got mine in about 1 month ago, it came with a 3 prong that I will be removing when I find MAMS in stock. After shooting it some for break in, there is a definite difference in shooting without it on. I have one on my other kac.

How much flash suppression does the 3 prong have over the MAMS?

For someone that can't have a suppressor, does the MAMS offer anything over the 3 prong flash hider on an 11.5" pistol or SBR?

Is there a significant increase in concussion from the MAMS brake over the 3 prong flash hider out of a short barrel?

I never really considered a brake for a 5.56 as recoil just isn't that bad. I was also under the impression that the 3 prong flash hider and MAMS were both compatible with the same suppressors, is there something I'm missing?

The KAC 3 prong is a better flash suppressor over the MAMS by a wide margin.
I prefer the 3 Prong over the MAMS for most uses on 11.5" SBR's, that's personally to me and I don't bother with AR pistols.
There is more "concussion" with the MAMS over the 3 prong, but the MAMS is already mild as far as "concussion" goes compared to similar devices.
The QDC line of sound suppressors is caliber specific from KAC, with their own muzzle devices, 5.56 is one and 7.62 with 300 AAC Blackout grouped being the difference.
I have run the larger caliber cans on smaller hosts, but I think it's better to run caliber specific cans in general.

What's the reasoning for going LW with the 11.5" uppers? I understand for the 14.5" and 16" configurations, but I would assume a lot of people who go with the 11.5" would be running a suppressor. Wouldn't a thinker profile be better for suppressor use?

The 14.5" uppers ? I'm very close to paying a huge upcharge for one with a medium contour, dimpled barrel. The only hesitation I have with the new ones is the possibility of a light weight profile barrel. I prefer the medium contour of the current generation.

The dimpled barrel was good if you wanted a little more forward weight, but from a performance perspective, the current barrel is at the same level of performance as the dimpled mid-weight, with a possible edge in pure precision*.

*Note: While 5.56 guns all get a function verification test, they are not shot for accuracy from the factory (other than the LPR). My data is limited to information collection only, not long-term definitive testing.

I know I'm going against the grain but I like a little extra weight out there. Still not sure if the deal is gonna go through on this upper. I don't know if that's a bad thing as the upper alone would be more than a complete sr 15 mod 2.

At this point I'm starting to question if there's enough of a difference in the 14.5 vs the Mod 2 16" or the future mod 2 14.5. If it doesn't go through I'll hold off until you guys put out the mod 2 14.5 uppers and pin the new MAMS to it. Maybe wait till after SHOT show ?

Having had or shot the legacy, Mod 1, Mod 2 and 14.5 dimpled barrel guns I still prefer the 14.5 dimpled barrel guns. I could tell a difference shooting the 16" with MAMS and a 14.5 with MAMS back to back. I kept my 14.5 dimpled gun and sold the rest because I never shot them any more.

og556
12-22-14, 08:15
Is it a combination of the barrel length and gas port or does the heavier weight of the barrel make the difference ? I'm torn about whether to wait for the newer mod 2 with lightweight barrel 14.5 upper or dump the money on the med-con dimpled upper.

Weight forward is good for shooting a lot.
Reduced weight is good for carrying a lot.
Everything has a trade-off.

The new KAC cans with couplers are pretty damn cool. Theres no doubt that a coupler is a superior way to make an airtight connection? I wonder how they handle a little debris around the coupler itself? Have you ever tried to connect an even lightly soiled coupler? They are not easily cleaned quickly.

I haven't had any more issues than any other QD mount. That's one of the few things that get hit with at least a quick scrub after any range trip. KAC, Surefire, AAC, and others. The new QDC line seems great for now without issues.
