Geissele does not require much introduction...This will be the first of many threads on my SHOt 2014 tour, but what better way to kick it off then with a Geissele booth tour.

6 Second mount is about to go into mass production, casted body with new tooling will keep the price of this beauty down to a acceptable level.

Requested by a tier one unit, they found a solid mount for red dot is a much faster solution to acquire a target and it is also much more reliable solution then a slide mounted solution. like Tactical weaponry Jedi Master Ken Hackathorn stated over and over again, red dot mounted on a pistol slide is the future, it is just not right now. the 6 second mount solves this issue and at the same time brings about a menacing look to your every day Glock

This is the prototype Geissele trigger for the Tavor...not much to look at, but trust me, this is the best bullpup trigger I have ever felt and I have owned AUG and FS2000. still in prototype form, some more tweaking before a general public release later in Q2.

Geissele Mk4 and Mk5, both are Keymod ready but the Mk4 will have a section of the picatinny rail up front.

Completely modular, you can switch between a 22" barreled stand alone bullpup shot shotgun to a CQB barreled shotgun or an under barrel master key.

I wasn't able to lock on a solid focus, but a button nested above the barrel section locks and releases the barrel from action.

Another cool find at SHOT this year was the Desert Tech's new bullpup carbine. well thought out and with the new ejection port design eliminates the bullpup's shortfall of strong side only shooting style. also with the magazine button moved to front of the trigger and a very quick access bolt release..this is very promising.

Yeah. A Tavor plus a Super Trigger or Timney Trigger would cost about as much as this which doesn't need a trigger upgrade. Something to think about.

I'd buy it just on there (DT) stance/refusal on selling arms that might be turned against US troops. Way to go to put morals above profit, take notice corporate America!!

On bulpup I see several similarities to bulpup version of Polish MSBS. Looks like our designers here in Poland are going right way.

At this time, there are no intentions of making additional rails in multicam due to the cost of this special anodizing. If there is a market demand for it, then we would bring it to market.

We are going to be using a lot of the ALG/Geissele stuff in our builds. Especially the EMR rail.

I took about 1000 pictures at SHOT, I think the HK pictures took about 150 shots. the most I took at any booth. Does that make me a HK freak? well, I think its an Asian thing.

HK Celebrated their 50th anniversary for the MP5 SMG, the SMG for all others to measure against.

Interesting take on the Keymod design, HK team in the States flip the keymod the opposite direction and change the dimension....for the sack of HK being different or????

Supposedly the reverse configuration is better for a lock up during recoil and the revised dimension is redesigned to have step internally to lock in the keys much more securely than the current Keymod design released by Eric Kincel of BCM

I'm curious at the near ubiquity of FDE. Is anyone actually buying it aside from US civilians at this point?

I find it more of a honey mustard than a FDE but I get what you are saying. I think HK was onto something several years back when they made USPs and SL8s in grey, after all grey is the new FDE.

Figured they would have come up with something unique for the platform.

It is called RAL8000. Bundeswehr uses it on G28 for example.

Any word on the HK293? I know I'm saving aside a good sized chunk of change to pick one up.

1-2 years with price target under $2000 ($1700 were mentioned) - look for Wayne Weber interview.

It seems like carbon fouling could bind up that ball bearing coupling system. I wonder what they did to prevent this from occurring.

And then they would be picked apart on the internet by sycophants and bottom feeders who whine about a grip they've never touched or seen in person....kind of like our Daniel Defense thread.

An A2 grip is just smart business. The people who like them will keep them and the people who don't were almost certainly going to change the grip to whatever they like anyways.

There are so many options on the market that we don't want to be wedded to any single one, so we put on a simple, inexpensive, readily replaced option. The A2 grip is kinda like sights on a Glock.
Imagine it as a sign that says "grip goes here".

The retention threads lie outside the coupling, so they aren't at issue with fouling.
Carbon doesn't really stick to the ceramic balls (especially if they are treated with a good carbon inhibitor), so fouling doesn't really effect them either.

The demo model I saw a couple of years ago seemed like it would not be prone to getting carbon locked on the mount at all. The ball lock design gave me the impression that it would be easily removed.

The QDC CQB 7.62 is on the top of my list of must-haves this year. That on a 9" blackout would be the ultimate short setup. Kevin has been kind enough to answer a couple questions in terms of availability and suppression so once I check a couple proverbial boxes...I'll probably pull the trigger on it.

The keymod accessories were also very slick. The keymod mounts for things like that micro front sight were crazy light, and very nice looking despite being proto/pre-release.

FINALLY ambi-charging handles... But wait, as per the photos, this is not a standard option on the new rifles this year? This has been THE thing the SR-15 series has been missing, stick those suckers in the rifles and check that block. The A44's I have on my two Mod 1's are what make the rifle's ambi design features sensible.

Does anyone have pictures of the new gas block/gas tube interface, and can explain exactly the purpose behind the redesign. Is it nothing more than to create clearance the new URX4 rail?

The gas block design was described as providing a better gas seal, but that's the limit of what I know about why it was changed. I assume that it will be pretty slim below the barrel. The design is pretty interesting, but I imagine it will require a specific tool for installation. From what I've gathered so far, the barrel and block are notched for proper alignment. The gas tube is straight and attaches to the gas block via a jam nut. The barrel is threaded forward of the gas block and a castle nut will thread onto the barrel to secure the gas block in place. This is what I've gathered after a couple of days of research, so it may not be 100% accurate.

That's pretty accurate.
The engineering challenge was to get a gas block secured under a tube with the same confidence as taper pins, without needing lateral access to the gas block, while eliminating gas leakage/inefficiency.

H&K in my opinion has the Keymod orientation right. I'm no expert but someone needs to explain why other manufacturers would not be doing the same as H&K with the smaller end of the hole towards the rear. Recoil impulse dictates this is the way to go.

Remington also brought out a new pistol that seems to be very interesting for the BUG market. I found it even more interesting then the G42, crisp trigger, good enough for EDC, with decent sights and an egronomic grip. not sure about reliablility, but this holds true, it will give the G42 a run for its money.

Somebody at Remington just gets it in terms of rail design.

That is one helluva sweet rail...the depth, and complexity of it's design is just awesome.

It's a MK1 with more modularity...45 degree steel inserts for rail acc. panels, as well as more built in QD sockets.

The MK1 most likely still has the better barrel nut/lockup design, however I'd love to see the Rem rail broken down.

LWRC sure makes some sweet guns, I'll have to get one of their DI machines and try it out. Hopefully those PDWs are soon to be released. Can't wait to see if they release a 7.62 DI gun.

Great pics as usual! Does anyone know if Geissele will be offering their wares in Multi-cam anodizing or was that just a SHOT show display piece?

This is an experimental process that is still being developed by the anodizing company. They did a few test samples in time for us to display at SHOT. Customer response was very positive at the show so it may be offered as an option once the process is finalized.

I wouldn't put it past L3 to have not given that an ounce of thought. They did after all make this for the 512/552 sights for some reason so I have my doubts about this system. Now if they also improved the battery terminals so that the batteries can't come loose on the older models, this could do well. Time will tell, I guess.

I am surprised that it will be keymod only going forward for the civilian side. Especially as KAC is a large military contractor, I would of thought they would be one of the last to move to keymod. I have, until this point, assumed keymod a fad and that it would eventually fade as everything for military contract (and as so much of products in the market are trickled down from military contracts) is utilizing the picatinny format and that is certainly here to stay. In contrast the only thing keeping keymod around is the civilian markets dollars. I still remain skeptical that keymod will last more than 5 years, and I am thinking that picatinny attachments will remain the bulk of the market.

That said...I think keymod is pretty fricken' cool, and would like to be proved wrong.

Further, I think a 14.5'' light weight barrel profile may not be as sexy as the heavy contour ball milled profiles, but for a working gun that is about the pinnacle of design.

I believe they're only in 5.56 and 6.8 SPC. However there is a 300 BLK DI gun being released but I agree that a 300 BLK version would be pretty slick, as would the option to get a "storm trooper" styled PDW just to have one.

If only they'd spend the time making a non reciprocating charging handle for the system. I don't see why they wouldn't just improve the original stock design and attaching mechanism. If VLTOR did this and SCARs had Handl lowers then the system would be a lot slicker. Can't wait to see if the Bren Ten comes out in 2015.

Interesting pics of the pistol.. Those clear up some questions I had about it. I have read on some other forums, other people who have handled it at SHOT, had complained about not being able to disengage the grip safety reliably, due to the size/shape of their hands. Remington may at some point need to put some sort of a memory bump on the grip safety.. It's a interesting design, I guess we'll see how well it holds up once these start selling..

The new 556SD is in interesting development on AAC's part. The 556SD is simpler in design, slightly longer and slightly heavier and it have a slightly lower sound reduction, but it is easier to machine, takes less time in manufacturing in return it is lower in cost, retail around 800.00 it is the lowest cost QD suppressor on the market for AAC.

Troy's entry level flip up iron sight, front and rear available soon. This is a prototype version so the spring is a bit loose and the lockl up is not as positive, so the sight isn't laid flat on the receiver.

What, if any, changes have been made to the MOD2 as compare to the MOD1's? Aside from the URX4, and gas block it uses? I know they've removed the qd swivel ports from the lower and gone to the mount behind the castle nut, but even some mod1's had that. Any other changes?

I'll always like the 3.1 rail, but keymod is kind of interesting. Not a dealbreaker, but I've yet to see a keymod rail panel I like yet. I'll have to review some more pics, but would most keymod rail panels on the market lend themselves well to stippling as most polymer accessories do nowadays? IOW's, they're not too thin are they??

I am surprised that it will be keymod only going forward for the civilian side.

This. Huge KAC fan, own a few Mod 1 5.56 guns and an ECC. While I do appreciate keymod (have a Noveske NSR railed rifle) and I think the URX4 is great, I would like to see the URX3.1 remain a standard option.
Better yet, do a hybrid URX3.1 with keymod slots on the flats.

What's the point of adding more teeth on the QD? 18t, then 51t, now 90t?

A lot of different variations were tossed around, but in the end it was decided that a narrow product range would simplify and speed up production to meet demand.

Anyone know if they are still going to produce the mk4 non keymod rail?

As of right now, all future MK4 and MK5 rails will only be keymods.

The handguard does look awesome, but it's not like a Geissele-it's like a Remington. Geissele didn't invent the wheel when he came out with his handguard; he improved on HK's design. After making his HK handguard, he used the same barrel nut and attachment method to use on regular/legacy ARs. Remington also responded to the solicitation and produced the RAHG for the HK416. Since both were making handguards for a specific gun with a specific set of specs and a unique attachment method, the two were bound to have similarities. If anything, Remington is taking more design cues from JP, as JP helped Remington make the RSASS. Pretty much all the rifles that Remington Military produces that aren't legacy systems use this JP inspired/produced handguard. The MSR, the XM2010, the R5 and the ACR all have similar handguards to the RSASS. The RAHG looks similar as well. This new handguard looks much more like what's on the MSR and 2010 than anything Geissele produced. So what if it has an HK style attachment and likely a similar barrel nut, Geissele didn't invent it. This isn't a bash on Bill Geissele or his company. I have his handguard on my HK. I also have a lot of his triggers. I love his products, but he isn't Moses. Noveske, BCM and others with toothless barrel nuts didn't copy him either.

The R51 looks like a rad pistol to have. I'll also second the desire for the R5. I pretty much want this thread.

The URX4 is actually growing on my especially since seeing pictures of the production APC. And those keymod iron sights are dead sexy.

Pictures really don't do the keymod rails any favors. I wasn't never a big fan from the pics, but seeing them in person and handling them, they really grew on me.

I was content with the 8" URX 3 on my 9" blackout, but the URX 4 8.5" might be a good choice as it gives me a full inch extra on the bottom and even though it'll extend just over the rear of the mount, it still won't be too long. I'm not running a suppressor at this point, but am interested in the 7.62 CQB. I saw a rifle at their booth with the rail extended over the suppressor, but not sure if the 7.62 mount will work with my set up and the 8.5" URX 4. Obviously it would work with KAC's 9.5" barrel though.

Back on pg 1, in SMG's 12th and 13th pics down from top, what is the reasoning behind the entire URX4 being made to completely separate like that? This solely for gas block install/acces purpose, or to simply extend your rail if so desired (doubtful), ???
Most interesting.
Finally, is this feature seen on all URX4's, or just some of the longer rails? Maybe I just missed it, but I don't recall seeing this detachable system/feature in Jacks' install vid a while back. It was probably there and I just overlooked it....?

It seems like the new "gas system" is really just to accomadate the urx 4's terrible mounting. I'm sure it's not worse but I would like to see just how much better it is. If I take off my 3.1 it's getting a kmr for sure. As a factory rifle I think it's as fine an option as the mod1, so long as you don't want to change the handguard out.

How are you liking the URX 4 so far?

I will say that I strongly prefer the KAC URX 4 to the NSR or to any other keymod I have encountered. However, I have not handled BCMs. It feels like it has a wider diameter than the NSR and I like feel of it. I haven't had any issues with heat while shooting suppressed although I did pick up KAC's keymod rail covers.

In comparing it with the 3.1, I'm still getting used to it. However, it continues to grow on me.

I have it on a KAC 14.5 upper. I also have a stock KAC 14.5 Carbine with the 3.1. I still slightly prefer the 3.1 just because hand placement and controls are automatic for me. That said, I now live in a state where it gets fairly cold so I haven't shot it nearly as much as the 14.5" with the 3.1 and I'm still waiting on some accessories (particularly the surefire scout mount). I'm really looking forward to setting up a 500 lum scout ultra. I will not have the same space restrictions (mount to muzzle) as I do with the 3.1 on a 14.5". I'll be able to position it completely out of the way and use the SR07 switch.

Moreover, everyone that has either hefted the rifle with the U4 or has shot it - I mean every single person including my wife - not only prefers, but strongly prefers the U4. She actually made a comment along the lines of "not bad" which coming from her about a gun is a ringing endorsement. She seemed to even prefer it to the KAC 11.5 with the URX 3.1, which had been her preference because of weight. I am considering putting a 10" U4 on an 11.5 but I understand that KAC plans to come out with a U4 that's 10.75" (same length as their 3.1 midlength) which I would prefer.

Having handled an 8" URX 3, I would go for the 8.5" U4 but I'm not sure about the issue with your mount being slightly under the rail. That said, I don't think it's an issue if you are not running a suppressor and it's only the rear of the mount. There's a photo of Costa floating around of him running a MAMS on a KAC 14.5" 300 blk with a 14.5" U4 rail. I personally wouldn't opt for that set up, but I'm sure he has his reasons.

Bottom line is that it's growing on me and there are some real advantages with the U4. The only thing I do not like about it is that I had to swap my pinned KAC gas block for a screw gas block. But that's a psychological thing. I'm not a door kicker and I've never had a screw gas block come loose (but I've only had KAC and Centurion Arms). Moreover, the word is that Jack has figured out some way to install the U4 and be able to retain the pinned gas block. I wish he would post another video ....

I believe they're only in 5.56 and 6.8 SPC. However there is a 300 BLK DI gun being released but I agree that a 300 BLK version would be pretty slick, as would the option to get a "storm trooper" styled PDW just to have one.

I just want a 300 BLK in that PDW style. I couldn't give two shits about Piston, in fact I would prefer DI. Did they confirm they're doing a factory SBR PDW in 300 BLK?

H&K in my opinion has the Keymod orientation right. I'm no expert but someone needs to explain why other manufacturers would not be doing the same as H&K with the smaller end of the hole towards the rear. Recoil impulse dictates this is the way to go.

I don't know who is correct, but with the HK's configured the other way, VLTOR and others have to be a bit worried they got it backwards. I suppose we'll have to wait and see if crap starts falling off one or the other in the near future.

Wish they would just make them compatible with KAC pattern mags like everyone else.

We push forward when we mount out optics, IR lasers and lights. It makes sense that we'd push forward to mount our kit on the keymod as well. Considering the only thing most will be mounting with the keymod will be lights, panels/grips and maybe a QD socket, I think it'll be ok regardless of orientation.

I don't see it being an issue at all with recoil. Now, a keymod vert grip I'm not sure about. I use a lot of rearward force on vert grips when shouldering my rifles, so that would be my only concern...... and even then it's not a concern but more like curiosity.

Mainly for longer barreled guns -- we put the extender on a 20" 7.62 gun - and it goes to the same spot as the normal rail on the 16"
- key for folks who like to run lasers etc out far on the rail.

The Gas System was not designed for URX4 - the gas system was designed to defeat the failures of standard gas tube/gas block link up.
Look at a lot of guns that use conventional gas tube setup -- the gas bleed heavily around the block, so you either need to seal it - or run an excessive gas port to defeat the leak...

The system was designed primary for reliability and government armorer ease of support to the system. Yes its unique - however the block alignment method and the method of retension goes back to the old SR-25 Match Rifles - the old 24" guns.
We wanted to get away from Taper Pins as well due to the accuracy impact that can have.

URX4 attachment method simply came from our IBN Rail that we submitted for the ARMY M4PIP FRAK. We noticed in testing that the internal barrel nut was superior to other methods, we tried a few others with the URX4 Prototypes - but the IBN system was superior for alignment and rigidity.

These look great. The URX4 and SR-15 Mod 2 are just about everything I was hoping they'd be (pending further comparisons with the KMR). The only disappointing thing is that being in MA (where no threaded barrels are allowed), I'd have to get one with a pinned and welded muzzle device, which I'd rather do on a 14.5 instead of a 16", so too bad that's going away as an option.

You could always get the IWC one if you don't want to wait. I have a couple and like them.

Every year it seems like I see a Remington AR that I would like to own but its never brought to market.

Will someone be making holsters for the 6 second mount that will be available to civilians?

I am 99% sure I was told by one of the higher ups (not a rep) that roll mark will be stamped into the receiver, not the white engraving you see now.

I cannot wait for the carbon hand guard to be released for my 516. It has been a tack driver but I hate the factory quad rail...there is hope finally :)

Their video interview said $150 on the new aluminum sights "lighter than competitor's polymer sights."

I need 4 pairs of 'em ASAP.

I am not sure why companies are doing keymods with non detachable picatinny at the muzzle end. Seems like the only thing you could mount on the keymods would be rail covers.

Okay, the new rears are perhaps the first thing from the shot shot that I have gone, "I must have!" Would like to know cost of just the rear, am highly interested. If it locks up and down like their current offerings it just might replace a DD rear I have on one rifle.

I don't get this either. It's either a freakin' keymod rail, or it isn't - make up your mind. They're killing the appeal / weight savings etc. I do like the rear integrated QD mounts, which both the NS & BCM KMR don't have. You're forced to do an add-on further forward than where it should be and it sticks out as well.

There were so many AR accessories at SHOT that I couldn't possibly count them all. I tried to pick out some useful ones that fly under the radar.

Any news on the ACR or is it dead?

Its available from Bushmaster but none of the "accessories" ever came to fruition. No short barrels, no 300 Blackout, etc. It never progressed to the level that MagPul had intended. Freakin' waste!

Bushmaster does not manufacture the ACR, Remington Defense does. And yes, there is a PDW version of the ACR available. The ACR can come with different rails and different barrel lengths. It is also available in a fixed stock or folding stock model

I just spent all of last week taking the Remington Defense Armorer and Operator Course, and I can testify that the rail is very sweet. So is the ACR. And the MSR. And the RSASS.

The guys who run the Mil/LE side of Remington are good guys who have tons of experience, and they are continously trying to improve on their products.

As far as product availability goes, for them it is a question of prioritizing work. I asked about the HK416 rail, and they said they could make it, but they aren't going to prioritize that over another product unless the quantity is there.

For the sake of full disclosure, I am the agent for Remington Defense in Norway (my company, that is).

It is "available" through Bushmaster. Its commercial branding says Bushmaster. I am fully aware of the company affiliations. The point was nothing has come to the marketplace other than the basic ACR and a folding stock & metal handguard for the basic ACR. It is a commercial clusterf**k and they still have no customers on the LE/Mil side. SHOT show prototypes are not production; they are a tease.

Be advised, I say this as a guy who only buys Remington Hunting firearms. Love the company but their "priorities" are not providing the ACR platform discussed in the last 5 SHOT shows. My guess is, they never will.

A Link for your reference. Same page for the last 3 years....

Ok.

We just covered Remington Defense, none of the commercial products or other Freedom Group products, except for some trainer guns from DPMS that we used for disassembly during the armorer part.
