View Full Version : Rem 700 bore guide and maint ?
What is the best bore guide for a Remington 700 short action?
I already have a Dewey coated rod.
What is a good patch/jag combination that actually fits the 700 bore?
Square or round patches?
Any help will be appreciated.

I bought a Lucas Bore guide for a build that should be done soon

the site is pretty new so there's not much info there; you can look here for more info, or do a google search:

Contact him via email to order, mail a check, and you should have it within 7-10 days.
Can't help you with the patches, but curious what others have found to work best.
TacDoc:
you can't go wrong with Dewey products, they are the standard that others are measured by.
Lucas- best guide rod on the planet for M700 action
Also, the Lucas bore guide will be made to fit what ever rod diameter you use. I use the Dewey .27cal and up rod. So my Lucas Bore Guide was made for that rod.
Very light weight and will last forever. I keep it in my drag bag just because it's so light.
All my other cleaning gear is from Dewey- great products, great company.
I use a Dewey coated rod with a Possum Hollow Bore Guide.
Lucas makes a fine bore guide, but he has a day job and makes them by hand in his spare time, so it can take some time to get one. They are pricey too. For a standard Rem 700 short action without a benchrest chamber, a standard delrin guide with a silicon O ring by Possom Hollow will work fine, be a lot cheaper, and can be obtained quickly.
You can get one from Brownells or directly from PH.

Gents,
Thanks for the replies. I went with the Lucas guide as I still have a lot to wait for my rifle to come from GAP... :(
