Now that I bought my first rifle, time to find a place to store it at home! I have a hidden, locked closet next to our bedroom that might work, but it's too small to fit in a gun safe or large rack. I found this (http://www.verticalgunracks.com/store/p1/Vertical_Gun_Rack.html) online by searching various gun mounts / racks / vertical / etc, and thought it is worth trying. Other options that I found online, including those comprised of 2 separate carved wood blocks, or locking clamps, etc. tend to be quite a bit more expensive.

This is a very lightweight, probably aluminum flat rod which is formed into an L shape, that allows rifles to either be stored vertically upright or downwards. The short part of the "L" has a 180-degree hook formed to help stabilize the gun. The top of the L has a short segment sticking out which supports the weight of the gun, typically against front of the magazine well, or the back of the grip. The entire thing is rubber coated, and does not have any areas that might scratch. Two drilled countersunk holes are in the long part of the L for attaching to the wall.

This picture makes the rod look curved, but it isn't (just my camera being silly). The fully rubberized rod is approximately 1/4" in thickness, with the entire bracket approx 14.5" tall, and 3.25" wide. The bracket is quite sturdy.

After mounting it to the wall with two 1-inch screws, you can see how it works. For my purposes of hanging the gun upside down (so the muzzle always points at the ground), the short piece sticking out rests under the mag well, and due to the gun's center of mass, it wants to rotate forward, which puts the stock inside the hook.

Overall, it works great, and for $20 it's a great way to hang my AR15 off the ground and in a hidden location. Props to their customer service and quick responses to my emails, and they also shipped this rack quickly. Now I can build a shelf above the rifle to store my handgun, magazines, etc :D

Full disclosure: This is a customer review. I have no financial interest in this company or their products, only interest in spreading news about products that make me happy, are cost-effective and might be useful to others.

Looks interesting. Any way to somehow secure or lock the rifle in place? I'm looking for something to store a couple of AR's outside my smallish safe (no more Jenga getting them in/out).

Id imagine you could cut a hole in the stud behind the the trigger guard area, then run a lock through it, and around the gun between the magazine, and grip.

Maybe a bike lock or something?

Pretty cool mount though.

Looks like a simple, effective solution. At $25 shipped, it's certainly worth a try. Thanks for the heads up!

For $20ish bucks, I'll give it a go. I'm sure I can find a use for it.
