Hey guys. Was just taking my long guns out today for a check and clean since I want to go shooting soon. Haven't shot my rifles and shot guns in about 3 months and while although I keep them locked in the safe with my two dehumidifiers I always check on my guns. Anyway, while looking at my colt le6920 I noticed these gray areas on the metal on the inside of the gun. I pulled back the BCG and noticed it on the inside behind the BCG on the walls of the gun on the upper. It's hard to tell if it's the beginning stages of pitting or lube overspray from the factory. I could've sworn I never noticed it before. Last I shot my gun I took it home and gave it a decent clean with some CLP and made the gun nice and wet before putting it back in my safe, not to mention I have humidity gauge which never goes higher than 30-35% even at its most humid here in NY. Here's a few pics. Let me know what you guys think, Thanks.

That is dry film lube.

Seconded. And, while its difficult to tell from the pictures, it doesn't look to be "overspray". The TDP calls for dry film lube to be applied throughout the upper. Looks good to go.

Looks fine.

I don't personally think the dry-film stuff matters one way or another. On wear surfaces, it comes off in a few hundred rounds. On non-wear surfaces...who cares?

It's certainly not a bad thing, though! Your weapon looks G2G.

Alright then thank you!

I haven't had the gun a year at this point and I've probably put about 200 rounds through it with one cleaning. I will give my guns a good clean as well before I take them shooting again so that probably explains why it looks to be wearing off. Well, time to go shooting.

Lube. Aluminum won't pit from humidity.
