Building a new SPR rifle with the following parts;
DD 18" SPR rifle length sbn barrel
PWS 15" Keymod Handguard
Vltor Mur Receiver
Vltor VR complete lower
NightForce 2.5x10x24 Mil-Dot scope

Which Flash hider/Brake do you recommend I install? Would a regular A2 flash hider do?

Thanks In Advance,
MickeyJr308.

For actual flash suppression, they are hard to beat.

Wait, where did you get the barrel? Last I heard, Daniel Defense was not releasing this barrel as a component. Or is it not the CHF stainless Mk12 barrel?

For a muzzle device on on a Mk12/SPRish rifle, I like brakes. The barrel is long enough so you don't really feel the concussive nature of a brake. One of my 18"ers has an Allen Engineering (Ops Inc. clone) brake and collar. The other has a Surefire MB556AR.

I put a BCM Mod 0 Comp on my 18er and I love it. Smooth as glass with no concussion felt by the shooter.

I recommend figuring out which sound suppressor you like and using whichever muzzle device works with it.

I look at swapping muzzle devices as just the cost of trial and error. I started with a vortex on my 18" gun because it fit my Halo. I read the PA M4-72 directs concussion back pretty bad, but it also may fit my suppressor. PA offered to return the used brake if I would confirm it one way or the other for them. If that doesn't hash out I'm going to do the surefire brake because my next suppressor will be a Surefire.

This x10

With that I would suggest the OSS cans and brakes. While is it not a true flash hider it does a good job as a brake on its own. But when coupled with an OSS can, yes pretty awesome IMO.

I Live in Canada and we cannot have cans, just going to use the rifle for service rifle matches and some LR matches on military ranges. I just would like a flash hider/brake that will help for fast follow up shots in the rapids/snaps stages of the service rifle matches. Also that will not blast shooters next to me.

my top 4 from the SCAR17 testing were the troy, lantac, PWS, and OSS

This was actual reduction of G's on the SCAR. Now mind you that is very different operating system than an AR platform. We shot the Lantac and OSS on the 417 (MR762) and all shooters seemed to like those two best.

Another brake that I've shot that I like is the viper from lancer, it can be tuned for each shooters preferences.

The last brake I will mention is the MAMS from knights. After messing with the slew of brakes for the Handl test, I understand its design and I wish I had one for the test. I've got no data to support either Knights new MAMS or Lancer. But from my experience as long as there will never be a can on it, and if it size is not an issue, I'd buy the Lancer.

My favorite so far has been the MAMS.

I don't have an SPR, but my 16" AR has an AAC Blackout flash hider on it. It's more expensive than an A2, but far less expensive than many of the other options out there. Does nothing for recoil/muzzle jump, but according to the tests I've seen is the most effective at reducing muzzle flash.

The pics don't work for me for some reason.

With that said, the A2 offers good bang for the buck.

It's all personal opinion, but I hated the Blackout that came on my Noveske middy. The recoil impulse on that gun just seemed much larger than it should have been and I couldn't stand the ping that it makes. I've had only BCM comps since and I love them.

Well, If you can't have a suppressor down the road then I would go with the EFAB or the BCM if you want lower concussion and a hybrid unit. I had a 14.5 with a BC1.5 then when I rebuilt it I put a BCM on it and the BCM is a good compromise. I have yet to read anything on the EFAB that makes me think they couldn't charge double if they were a more established company like KAC. Again only reading and whatnot. Never shot one. Just of the opinion that when everything read is positive, can't be all bad. I just built a 18" gun. You would be amazed how much the extra barrel reduces blast in and of it's self. I think you could stomach any muzzle device on those barrels.

I don't really worry about the guys next to me at the range. Even at the zero and plinking ranges the guy with the .22 is going to hate the braked .300WM deer destroyer, the bubba'd 7.62x54R, and the M1A thats going to eventually show up more than he's going to hate me.

The new surefire warcomp seems pretty cool if you can wait for it to hit the market.

I'm using an ALG SCB on my SPR build.
Cheap and effective.

I went with the Smith Enterprises Vortex on my SPR. I was lead to believe this FH was particularly good for accuracy builds, which was my ultimate goal. Who's to say? I like it though...

The ping was annoying at first. I don't notice it much anymore, except for the occasional time.

As far as straight flash suppression, YHM 5c2 is hard to beat for price and flash hiding. I know YHM doesn't get a lot of love here, but these things are very effective. It is NOT a comp though....AT ALL. :)
I get a few sparks, like from a bic lighter. It is very consistent and no ping.

Thank you for the great suggestions, anyone try a MSTN Quiet brake? or OPS Inc R3E2C muzzle brake?
