Yes, I understand this question is 100% subjective...just looking for opinions.

Which is more fun to shoot?

(I love ballistics, practical pros/cons, SHTF scenarios, etc as much as the next guy but this thread is about...[gasp] fun)

I prefer my 18" rifle over all my others but I'm an accuracy nut. My intermediate and rifle gas guns are both equally fun, but the intermediate is a little more accurate.

Afield and mobile I prefer the 11.5 with suppressor capability. From the distance or bench, the 18 with the can as well. Depends on what you are doing with it.

My 11.5" 6.5 Grendel is without a doubt the most fun gun to shoot that I own. The muzzle device is a bit on the obnoxious side because it's closer to you due to the short barrel but I only shoot this outdoors so it's not an issue. It's really fun to hear the rounds "thwap" steel at 200 yards vs the "tink" you hear with 5.56.

Did I mention it's short?

Personally? Just shootin' in the woods. No running and gunning but no bench rest shooting either.

I'm opening the thread up for anything though..

Blondes / Brunettes
Applie pie / pecan pie

It's all good.

Oh, I agree!

I'd take blonde and apple pie though if I had to pick :)

My favorite 5.56 lengths are 11.5-12.5.
Does all I expect a 5.56 to do, in a neat little package.
The HG is a little cramped (even at 10.75"), but better than is possible with a 10.5 barrel.

Fed purpose built ammo it is wholly adequate out to 200, which is pretty much the optimal envelope of 5.56 other than for giggles.

I agree. 12.5 with a TR24 scope for my old eyes does everything I need it to do.

If it is just walking around in the woods, 16" midlength... With a red dot.

When I grab a rifle to take with me on long walks, its a 20" with irons and a SF Scout. You can't get any more reliable than that for the price.

If I ever get around to getting a CZ Scorpion, that will be my grab and go gun.

..and this one is just as much fun, so...

Can I get back to you on that?

My favorite is my suppressed 11.5" by a large margin. It does 90% of what I need a rifle for.

I have the most fun shooting suppressed SPR rifles, even if they aren't the most practical for everything.

I have an 11.5" BCM with an A5 kit, and it's amazingly soft shooting. It makes the 6920 seem brutal in comparison.

Going to have to echo the other 11.5 users. I love it, especially suppressed. Definitely gets the most use.

I have to admit to giving the nod to a suppressed, full auto shorty. About the most fun a guy can have and still talk about it in a public forum

14.5 BCM middy rules the roost for smooth, fun shooting. I do love the shorty guns too, but there's just no comparison to a 14.5 middy.

I just sold my only one to fund a reloading setup for a 1000 yard .308 addiction that you are partly responsible for.

If you don't mind me asking, what muzzle device and buffer/spring combo do you recommend for this setup?

You know what's really funny... I just did the exact same thing. Sold a 14.5 BCM middy ( and to the next poster I was content with the BC1.5 and the BCM brake) to a good friend that was low on funds. Gave him a great deal on it and it's going to fund a complete reloading setup with materials for a couple thousand rounds!

It was a good weapon but my 11.5 and 18 just cover everything I could hope to do with a 5.56.

The more I shoot mine the more I love it. Bcm came up with a damn fine setup in that one.

That said I really want a suppressed 11.5 to play around with.

Agree on both counts. I'm trying to decide between a 11.5 or a 12.5. I've got a Colt dying to be SBR'ed.

My 12.5" Noveske is by far the most fun for me to shoot. Very close second is my 18" SPR. Love that gun.

I like the 20" guns. Shorter has more muzzle blast, which I dont care for, and I don't care the collapsing stocks much,...

The H-bar I had several years ago was mostly shot at 300-800 yards, on steel and just goofing off. The carbine and 20" rifle I've shot recently reinforced my previous experiences and opinions. I'd be way happy with an A2 or A4 rifle. I dont mind the scope mounted on a carry handle mount, though the flat top would be fine. Carrying the carry handle guns is nicer (thumb fits through handle).

My 8" 300BLK is hands down the most fun to shoot, however I can't afford to shoot it as much as my 12.5" in 5.56 which is a close second. My 18" SPR is all tricked out with big glass and can be a blast as well, but like the 300, I don't shoot it as much...

I've got to admit- I've never fired any rifle with a 10.5-11.5' barrel. A ten and a half foot barrel is pretty long!

I've fired every variation i can think of, and it is the basic 20" for me.

I can't SBR so a 14.5 Middy with perm Battlecomp or 16' Middy for me.

11.5" with a suppressor gets the most use. For all the reasons stated above. That's the go to, most fun rifle. But in a close second, is my Noveske 13.7 middy with a H2. Man that thing is a soft shooter.

My 18" handy rifle with rifle length gas is under 7 pounds with optic, light, and empty mag. Lighter than most 16" guns. Haven't found ANY gun that shoots as smooth as it does. They only one that comes close is my 14.5" BCM middy with Vltor A5H4 and an fsc556 out front......and it is a pound heavier than my 18".

But, this is like picking out underwear; different strokes for different folks.

16 inch mid length. You can still reach out and touch something with the right ammo. But it's still pretty short which I find to be more fun.
