Isn't there some kind of nuclear explosion detector of some sort that would alert the US Armed Forces of a detonation anywhere on this planet?

Yes, NORAD has satellites that can detect nukes. And I doubt it was a nuke. If putin isnt willing to fully commit his forces in the open why would he risk using nuclear weapons?

I'm tardy to the party, but if a nation detonated a nuke that wasn't a test it would be all over the news.
