What brand, style, kind ... whatever, do you use, or prefer, or would like to have. I have a setup that is ok, but, wondering what is most common, what is considered most useful for guys who like to shoot tactical drills.

I want something useful and functional trying to avoid being too tacticool. My buddy who wears one to work every day showed me his and I like it, but is his necessary for a guy shooting drills on a range?

Anyway, let me know what you would buy if you woke up tomorrow and yours had disappeared.

As always, thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You'd probably have better luck asking in the tactical gear section.

Hmm, yeah probably. I searched for "Chest rig" and came up with a bunch of stuff not related to chest rig.

I didn't even see the tac gear section. Tired eyes. Been a long couple weeks. Just glad to be home for a few days.

Jeez, that post is information overload!

I ordered a Beez Combat System Chest rig with padded harness like this one. Reasonable price. Looked like what I needed and he sure does know his gear!

I take a couple carbine classes a year and I like to keep it simple. I use HSGI's A/O Chest Rig with 4 TACO's. I really cannot imagine it getting any smaller than that.

Actually I got an email back from Tactical Tayloy and ordered this one as suggested on the thread mentioned on the first page.

Yes. Right handed.

Would recommend pistol mags toward the support side.

That looks great - I'm going to check out their products in the future.

Personally a fan of Esstac Kywi pouches. Nothing wrong with Tacos, just personal preference. That said, I also run a number of odd style mag pouches, with the velcro flaps.

Figure out what you are wanting the rig to do, number of mags(primary and secondary) as well as what other things you are wanting the rig to carry, such as tools, lights, medical, and then go from there.

Thought that was where you were going with that question. Makes a lot of sense if you just think about it for a second.

I bought the Tactical Tailor chest rig.

I am new to tactical training. I am not LE or ex military. I am not new to guns, I am an avid big game hunter and have been since I cound throw rocks at squirrels, it has always been in me. I hunt a lot, mostly overseas, and I have noticed my shooting skills are not as sharp as they were 10 years ago. (Wounded and lost a Brown Bear last year, and that really bothered me).

Have two buddies who work in tactical LE and one as an overses defense contractor. (Blackwater aka Academy) who are going to help train me. I am not new to guns, but tactical gear, drills training etc. are a new and exciting field for me.

Anyway, I use my AR's on the ranch for pigs and such, and decided that since I had the land, I might as well build a kick ass range where I could practice and get better at all shooting skills.

I appreciate the info and help in gear selection and range setup.

I have the same, in coyote brown. Added the center piece to cover the clips. I planned on using that space, but I now leave it open for my rifle to rest there. Three esstac KYWIs on my chest rig, two TACOs on my belt (m4-pistol combo) with the option of putting another pistol TACO on the belt or rig. Lots of flexibility.

Cool. Flexibility is what I am after since I don't know what I will wind up using it for or what config works best for me. It looks like a quality piece of equipment with room to configure as needed.

I have a question about attaching a holster to this. I have some back problems and for some reason, belts bother me, is there is a good or common holster option for running on a chest rig? Who makes a good one, or how can I attach, say, a Blackhawk holster to the chest rig. I have a Blackhawk for each of my pistols. I have seen it done before, just don't know if I should go with a dedicated molle holster (if such a thing exists) or attach a Blackhawk to it.

Some holsters you can attach to molle using paracord. I've also used a paddle style holster that holds quite well.

Safariland makes a fork-and-receiver system that allows you to quickly detach the holster-fork and attach it to other locations. The receiver plates can be hooked to belt rigs and other locations. I believe the fork can be threaded through MOLLE, as well.

Would these happen to be Serpa holsters?

I was going to suggest Safariland as well. They do make a system designed to be threaded through MOLLE that can be attached to their holsters. I don't have any hands-on experience with it though. I've never even seen it in person now that I think about it. However, I do have a several Safariland holsters with a few different mounting methods (belt loops, paddle, QLS) and I'm very pleased with their products on a whole.

I like Safariland but their MOLLE fork has not proved that successful for me. It slips out in moderate use from my TT war belt. If you are not careful, the gun and holster comes with the fork. The rest of the QLS systems are great, the MOLLE fork not so much.

I've not strung mine through MOLLE, only in the receiver plates, and that works pretty well.

Thanks for the additional insight, however. Good to know.

G-code makes the RTI MOLLE compatible attachments and holsters I've been using it for about a year on my hsgi s.g.p.b and has worked great

SteveL,

Yes, they are Serpa's.
