Well, my dream-gun is almost done. I've been collecting the pieces parts for about a year now. I started out wanting a general purpose semi-auto "precision rifle" to use for long-range practical matches, long range plinking and the occasional NRA F-class TR mid-range match. I didn't expect to be "competitive" with the bolt guns, but did expect to have a lot of fun.

I'm not much of a collector so like all my guns, I planned to shoot the crap out of it.

Along the way, I was advised repeatedly that I had something sort of special and so this gun is now my "special occasion" gun (kind of like a BBQ gun) and I've started another project with very similar goals to build a MK11 Mod 0, which I plan to configure similarly and shoot excessively.

The problem with the gun pictured here is that many of the components, like the barrel, are not quite irreplaceable, but definitely a major PITA to locate a replacement. Once shot out, it's done. That would pretty well suck.

So until my next project's done, I'll just keep shooting matches with bolt guns.

Anyway, the base gun is the too-awesome-for-words Knight Armament's SR-25 "Military Match", which is chambered in 308 Win and accessorized with Knight rails (RAS) and magpul stock and grips. Also, Knight's BUIS and their tuned trigger. The harris bipod w/podlock and the scope assembly are on Larue QD mounts.

The suppressor is also a Knight's and honestly, you have to hear it to believe it. I have 5 suppressors and this one just puts the others to shame. Well, the 24" barrel probably helps with the noise reduction too. And for 16" of steel and inconel, it's remarkably light. (granted, walking around your house with this thing is kind of like trying to move a sofa or box springs... you've got to think ahead. ;) )

I'd really like to express my extreme gratitude to Mr Knight  and all the folks down there I've been pestering for 6 months. Thanks a ton guys!

Also, thanks to jetsiphon on LRI for the storm case. The DIY foam cutting instructions on arfcom work pretty well, btw.

The factory test target is a 5-rnd group at 100 yrds that measures .450" (pictured) unsuppressed. It's .9" suppressed (not pictured) and the shift is less than half an inch.

The 'scope assembly' has been a debacle on par with the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. :banghead: More than once I felt like it would be easier to get sheep specs than find a mount/ring combo that works with a USO on a flat top. I'm very grateful for Larue's generous return policy!

The assembly is Seekins "tall" 35mm rings (really wish i could have found slightly shorter ones) on a Larue 5/8th inch riser with a bubble level.

Did you buy the suppressor recently, or have you had it awhile?

thanks, guys!

btw, SIMPLYDYNAMIC, I am eagerly awaiting the official magpul conversion doohickey for the MIAD to fit SR-25. I'm semi-ashamed to say I've whittled out a piece of hard plastic as a temporary measure.

Very nice -- but why the 24" bbl ? -- it really does not offer much more than the 20" in 7.62x51

Kevinb, I could be wrong, as I often am, but I believe at the time this one was made, it's the only way they came. I hope to also have a 20" more recent model any day now.

roger -- I was curious as why that model - than the Mk11 series.

I am jealous though -- and when the wife and I get back from Iraq - I will be knocking on KAC's door for a bunch of items. Also in Oct she will move her residence to Fla as well as Boston is a bad bad place for gunowners.

*apparently you cant register your wedding at KAC, personally I think it would be a great idea.

Has it been confirmed that Magpul will be doing an AR10/SR25 MIAD, or was that just a wishful thinking statement above guys??? I'm dying for one as well...

well I certainly can't speak authoritatively on the matter, but I was told a few weeks ago when I called and asked, that they would be out fairly soon. AFAIK, it's just a small adapter for a regular MIAD, not an SR25-only MIAD. I was planning to call this coming week for an update.
