Hey guys.

The real short of it, my wife gave me $1,800 for a New gun and I'm torn on what to get. for 9mmI have a gen 1 19, hen 2 26, gen 4 19 and a 92SF. 45s - 1911 gov model 70, Ruger New vaquero .45/45lc and HK 45 Tactical. S&W .357 revolver and Ruger MKIII target.

Went to my local shop the other day like a kid in a candy store. FINGERED EVERYTHING, BOUGHT NOTHING. Was checking out the Sig 220,.226,229, Colt Combat Elite, FN .45, Ruger .44 mag.... Thought about the HK MK 23, Desert Eagle .44... All great pieces. Loved the 226 but I don't want another 9. (19 is my duty wep). Thinking maybe the Gen 4 G21, but not sure.

Also looked at rifles. M1, SOCOM II, Rem 700....etc. I've got Savage TAC 110 BA, 6920 tricked out, Henry big boy .357, Henry golden boy LE edition and silver eagle, Marlin 30-30. I'm pondering the Troy MK 12. Like the SCAR 17, but a little out of the price range.

Opinions. Hit me.

Are you looking to stick with the calibers you have? I've always wanted a 10mm because I'm a product of the 80's. Plus a Glock 40 will make for a handy woods gun.

ETA: I've come close to grabbing a Sig 220 Match several times. It's SAO and has a 5" bbl.

If you loved the 226, you can get them in 40.

A silencer or rds for existing handguns? Reloader/ammo?

You do have an ar right? If not, get an ar, it's m4carbine.net!

If your looking for a fun handgun, check out a CZ sp01 with sao trigger.

I hate SIG so... disclaimer.

I like megademiC's silencer suggestion but if not legal I say more ammo and buy some high capacity mags for some range fun.

+1 You already have a big variety of guns. Why don't you get one new gun and spend the rest on ammo/training?

You also have one hell of an ol' lady!

Actually, why buy a new gun at all?
You have some really nice weapons as is.
You could buy more ammo and still have 3/4 of that money.
If it were me, and I didn't already know what I wanted, I would just save the money.

If you're in Law Enforcement and starting out, try not to keep up with the Tackleberrys. They usually end up dumping their new stuff when the divorce happens and secretly regret their purchases as soon as the "newness" wears off.

The older I get the less I spend on guns. Aside from a few items I got simply because I was an 80s kid; Most of my stuff is pretty monogamous and not wholly dissimilar.

A game I play with myself is to go over what I have, pick out 7 weapons I just know I will never part with, buy all ammo, parts, mags, ammo possible to support them, and anything else is a luxury.

It's actually kept my purchases in check and made me more content with what I have.

A Good handgun, 2 copies of the same AR rifle, 1 precision semi auto, 1 precision bolt action, 1 pre ban import battle rifle, and 1 good shotgun.

Makes me happy enough to spend more time and money and a lot less buyer's remorse.

Given your budget and the guns you already have, I would look into an SBR, a suppressor for one of your pistols, or training classes.

What would you like to do with it? Are you collector or a shooter (no negative tone intended), and what style of shooting do you do? Same would apply for the long gun...?

I kind of dislike how every time someone posts a thread on what gun to buy people instantly respond with "don't buy another"

Perhaps some people actually like collecting firearms, have a separate budget for ammo or are reloading (even when this is explicitly stated people will still say use the money on ammo), and/or enjoy being proficient with more than just their 20 year old G19 (an exaggeration in this case but same idea).

As for actually answering your question, I would sell the 92 fs because I personally don't like it, and then I would use the money on rifle(s) if you don't have any. You could easily get an AR15 kitted out with that money and possibly even have enough left to get another something. If I was in this position and did not have any long guns I would probably build/buy an AR15 and buy a shotgun with that money.

First, I'm not giving up the wife. Ever. She's the one that bought me half of those guns. Yeah, keeper all the way. I'm a shooter (combat shooting), primarily, but I do like to have a nice collection, also. I can trace that back to my father because he was a big collector. Had some really nice pieces, but I'm not going to get into what happened to them. Suffice to say, family can really suck when $$$ is waved in front of their face.

I'm LE for 19 years. I'm on the county RDF, was SWAT (no more team) and former Army Infantry, so I'll forgo any training. Ammo, I'm pretty good, but we all know you can never have enough ammo.

As for the silencers, I live in one of those states that thinks they are evil so that's not an option. Although I would love to get a couple.

I've got a Colt LE 6920 (M4) that I tricked out a little. Comp M4 with 3X magnifier, DD 9.5 rails, DD vert grip, Magpul grip and QD one point sling. I've got the precision bolt action, pre ban AR, good handguns, but I don't have the precision semi auto. That's where the Troy MK12 or the Sig 716 might come into play. Birthday is coming up in a couple months so I may drop a hint as to the SCAR 17. Was looking at the HK417, but for that price, I'd get a Les Baer.

Was also looking at the Mossberg 930 SPX, autoloader. I could get that and say, a G21. Desicions, Desicions. It's a bitch, really.

Maybe something like the DE 44 or Troy 308 is in order here.

Hmmm

If that's the case, and I had 1800 I just didn't care about...

I would buy a Series 70 Colt. And make no modifications to it.

Or...OR....

If you have 18 bills and your wife (who must be loaded) is talking about getting you a 2600 dollar SCAR 17....you could pool that money and get an SR-25 carbine. Or come close to it.

It is outrageously expensive but totally worth it.

ETA: Shoot a Desert Eagle first. They can be ammo finicky and really aren't all that great. I'd sooner get a S&W 629 for a .44

Based on your last response maybe you could enjoy an LMT MWS

You could also build a precision ar15 or ar10 as well. Lots of fun.

Given the new information here are things I would consider if I were in your shoes.

Pistol: Walther PPQ or HK VP9. Or both. Or even something from CZ.
Revolver: Wiley Clapp GP100 .357 mag.
Shotgun: I would look at FN or Benelli over the Mossberg. I've heard too many mixed reports on the Mossberg.
Rifle: You could build a heck of an AR with that, whether something for general purpose or precision oriented. Or you could look into getting the new CZ Scorpion Evo 3 and converting it to an SBR. I know you said your state doesn't allow silencers, but you didn't mention whether SBRs were legal.

I've been narrowing it down a bit and leaning more towards a rifle. Looking at a few that right around the mark.

The DD MK 12, Troy 308, Sig 716 and KAC SR15. I'd love to go for a SCAR 17, but it's a bit over what I have to spend. Benelli M4 and a Colt SAA in .45LC. As much as I love semi rifle, I love lever actions and SA revolvers. If you've never shot one, give it a go. They are extremely fun and a nice change from training.

Still eyeing up the Sig 226, but I kind of want to stay away from 9mm. Yes, I know it comes in.40, but I just don't know. Ya know? An issue/concern that I have with a .40 is that a number of manufacturers are using a 9mm based frame for a caliber for which it was not designed. I'm sure you've heard the issues, so I'm not going to get into it, but that's my big issue with the .40.

Today I'd vote
A. a nice 1911 - like the Series 70 Colt mentioned sent off for some light tuning and engraving maybe. Heirloom that bitch.
Or
B. a Colt SAA. 4 3/4" .45.
or
C. Beretta 1301 Tactical 12 ga.

You have a Ruger, but, you gotta have a Colt. It's just one of those things... I'll never regret that purchase.

A little more out of the box, since you have a 1911; how about one in .38 Super? it's a caliber I've been thinking about for a while. Just a thought...... Something different.

Agree with you on the SA/Lever gun. Myself, last fall I bought a S&W Mod69 (L frame .44mag) from Grant during his moving sale.. I loved shooting it so much I dug out a .44 mag Winchester M94 trapper that I had, and began shooting that. I hadn't shot the Winchester for close to 10yrs and had forgotten how much fun it is, That, and the fact it's dammed accurate at 50 yds. It goes out with me when the Mod 69 does. If anything I completely understand..Sometimes it's nice to take a break from the training regime..
