Who owns one? How do you like it? Which one do you have? Where in the heck did you find it?

I have had a 16in CL middy sabre for almost 2 years now. It shoots great and is built like a tank. I can shoot better groups with it than my noveske SS 18" SPR, which is sad really.

I just picked mine up on the 4th, I found a dealer who had them in stock so I was lucky there.

Now to just make up my mind on what I want to do to it:p

I have a Sabre 11.5" upper that's giving me hell. I can't figure it out. I'm running an H buffer on it. It rarely will lock back on the last round.

It didn't do this when I first got it.... When I was zeroing it and stuff. I've tried it on two different lowers, and different bolt groups to make sure that it was an upper issue. It seems to eject the brass normally, and recoil feels stout. But it just doesn't want to lock back for some reason.

I've tried Amercan Eagle, XM193, and my known good hand loads.... It won't lock back on any of them more than once out of 5 or 10 tries. :confused:

I have a comp deluxe 18". It is awesome rifle. I use it for all my 3 gun matches It has worked flawlessly. I have PMC, Fed, AE, lake city, and even shitty frangible. This is one of the best rifles available.

While maybe not exactly your problem, it may be related. It's from another forum (and shared without permission). I thought the poster had some great advice:

Not enough energy delivered to the carrier - Obstructed barrel port or front sight base, poor fit of the carrier key to the carrier, carrier key screws not tight, gas tube end or carrier key opening worn and leaky, carrier gas path obstructed, gas tube obstructed, gas rings gone, large clearance between tail of bolt and carrier;

Too much energy sucked off by drag in the mechanism - Binding or rubbing carrier, binding recoil spring, carrier and hammer binding on each other or inadequate lube on reciprocating parts. You can feel this during manual cycling, both with the trigger released and with the trigger pulled;

Too much energy taken up by extraction - Rough, sticky, or out-of-shape chamber, as evidenced by marks on cases and bent extraction rims. Ammo/chamber that make excess pressure, as evidenced by pierced, cratered, flattened, or lost primers, buttons of case metal extruded into the ejector plunger hole, case head growth in firing. Dirty chamber - clean with gun solvent, then lacquer thinner;

Too much energy taken up by the springs - Extra power recoil springs and hammer springs can be too much to allow full cycling. Start with GI, and if they work OK, then play with stronger ones.

I'm stumped. I've eliminated almost all of those potential problems. I really don't want to have to send it back to Sabre, but I'm running out of options.

It appears to be cycling great during normal fire. It's just that last round lockback. I got it to lock back once with a round of American Eagle, and the next attempt failed with the much hotter XM193.

I think I'll try to call Sabre today.

Solved my lockback problem, and I wanted to clear the SABRE UPPER that I wrongly accused. :eek:

Turns out the bolt catch group on BOTH lowers I tested the SABRE on have sticky, gritty, bolt catch movement. It was a fluke that the second lower had this problem and did the same thing.

Smoothing out the bolt catch and plunger and reducing the spring tension solved the problem completely. The Sabre ran all ammo tested perfectly and never missed a beat this morning.

I bought my XR15A2 from Robert at www.talonarms.com and have been nothing but impressed with it as well as the service from Robert (who continues to be my main source for anything AR-related). Great guy and his prices are VERY fair. Give him a call.
