Im looking for a replacement for my Armailite AR-10A barrel. It has shot great thus far, but im looking to swap it out for another quality barrel that will hold MOA accuracy to 700-800 yards.

Ive looked at the Rainier Arms Ultramatch and one from Black Hole Weaponry in addition to the much more expensive offerings from Lilja, Krieger, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the above or recommendations I may have overlooked? Trying to keep it as economical as possible while getting solid accuracy.

This rifle will be used primarily as a hunter, but may also fill a role as a back up to my bolt gun for precision rifle matches. Thanks.

You're on the right track with RA, BHW and Kreiger for sure...... and I would consider DPMS as well, as I have seen some pretty good results with match grade ammo. Brownells has them in stock for $259....what about just purchasing another Armalite barrel?

Looking at a noveske stainless steel barrel also. Looks like its between that and the RA Ultramatch. Any opinions either way?

Don't know if you've made your purchase yet or not. I replaced my 16" carbine barrel with an 18" Rock Creek from D9 Firearms. Look them up and check out the custom ARs page. You have to ask for a quote but he's got Rock Creek, Bartlien, and Broughton. My barrel is capable of 1/2 moa, me not so much.

Rock Creek makes a very nice barrel. Also known as Mike Rock barrel if you're looking.
Bartlien barrels are having a real good year this year. Well, I guess last year, since the stats for this year aren't done yet.

Here's the site mentioned above. http://www.d9firearms.com/ No prices but I'd wager... expensive. If its cheaper than a Noveske barrel I'd be surprised.

ETA if it IS cheaper than a Noveske, GET IT! lol.
BTW if I'm not mistaken PacNor makes Noveske's barrels and Shillen make Rainier's

IIRC, I think my barrel was like $475 a couple of years ago. Is a fluted Bartlien up around 6 - 7, probably. A Krieger is 6-ish for certain. But if you want an accurate .308 AR I personally think you should not cheap out on the barrel.

Rainier offers a guarantee on their barrels but I've heard you may have to use it, no first-hand experience. If I was doing it again, the cheapest barrel I would take a chance on is the Criterion that FA sells.

OP,

Have you looked into an Armalite 10T bbl or complete upper? I've run 20" and 16" 10T rigs and have been very happy. .5moa with FGMM 168 and 175 loadings. They'll do better but you get folks stirred up when you start talking <.5moa, much less throwing Armalite in there.
